HELP!! loud Screeching noise!

need help guys.... when ever i turn the fan on in the car...it make a really loud screeching noise coming from the engine bay. when i turn it off.. goes away shortly after?.... is it something serious or what? maybe the AC compressor? but i didnt run the ac.. just the fan..besides that car runs fine!
