Whats The Best Decal Remover?
First off i am going to say sorry if this is the 100,000x someone has posted this but i hate the search button.
ok! now i have a stupid dealer decal on my car and everyday that goes buy it drives me crazy. i went to autozone and saw the 3m decal removal spray but as i was reading the back it said that it "might destroy the paint also" after i saw that i put it down without thinking otherwise. so my question is, for those who have removed any kind of sticker on your car what is the best type for decal remover to use without destroying the paint?

What kind of decal is it? Vinyl? Can you get a pic?
If it's vinyl you should be able to peel it off...if it's that 3mm tape shit...take dental floss or fishing line and slowly work it off the car. Any extra sticky stuff just goo-gone it. |

Ditto^ But why didn't you ask the dealer to take it off when you bought the car? I do this with every car ive bought new. I say are you gonna pay me for advertising or are u gonna take that tacky sticker/letters off?

Goo Gone, Goof Off, Home Depot has them, probably any autoparts store. Find one that says safe on paint. The one I got did, just can't remember which one, but just read the can. I peeled off my dealer decal by hand because it was so new. Then use the goo gone, but maybe you can spray it down a little, you don't want it all over your car, and then work it. Dental floss works ok, you may start to cut into your fingers. So work gloves will help. Take your time to avoid minor scratches around the area, and I'm talking minor, not like gashes. Have some Dawn dish detergent and water already mixed up to wash the area really well afterwards. Dawn is a degreaser and will take care of the excess Goo Gone or Goof off. Get done, wash the car, thrown some wax on.
Tip: they say you can use a heat gun, but a blow dryer will help warm up the adhesive aswell, come off easier Wish you were near me, I'd say run it by one afternoon and we'd knock it out, take a couple minutes. Matter of fact if anyone in the Tuscaloosa or West Alabama needs it done, I'm saying come send me a pm and come by and we can knock it out. I'm not a shop, I don't charge, just don't mind helping.... And I'm not a pro, but whatever

This is what I use. Works great and won't touch the paint. You can get them at most auto parts stores.
http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...beRJ5GMFSMV0gl Shop around, price varies a lot.

Do not do this, but to get my rear bowtie off, I was replacing it with a black one since my car is black, I didn't have my goo gone, or 3M Adhesive remover or whatever, so I grabbed some 151 Rum and once I got the bowtie off with dental floss I used the rum to clean up the leftover adhesive. Way more work than it needs to be.
So definitely get some of the proper stuff, I've done more than one spot, and the rum isn't any good. Maybe I thought it was a good idea at the time because I had consumed some of it first, I don't know And if you get the goo gone or goof off or whatever, don't throw it out if you can. I've used it for prepping areas that I was painting to make sure all the wax and bugs and everything are gone so the paint will adhere

On my last car with one of these, I parked the car in a parking lot on a sunny day, waited an hour, and peeled them off using my thumbnail

I put a couple Oregon stickers on the C pillars in 2011 when I went to the Oregon/LSU game in Dallas. They were just cling stickers that didn't have adhesive. They didn't look bad till they started wearing last summer so I decided to take them off. Wasn't happening. They had baked on in the sun I guess.
I felt like you do probably right now. How the hell can I get them off without damage to the paint. I got the 3M wheel and it was like magic. It just chewed them up and they were gone. I wiped the area down with alcohol and there was not a single mark left behind. Just clean, shiny clear coat. I washed and waxed aafter that and not a sign they were ever there. My car is black too which shows any imperfections. If they are vinyl this should work. If they are metallic I would think more in the lines of heat and plastic razor blades.
