Thoughts on Water Injection?

What is everyones thoughts on running water/methanol injection to stabilise intake air temps and help keep the engine clean?

I ran water injection on some previous 4 cyl turbos and had great results.

I wonder how it would go on the LSA.

I don't believe there is proof that it eats the coating off of the rotors in the SC, however, Dupont, and other companies that make these coatings, won't guarantee that methane won't eat off the coating, so that's the only reason I can come up with not to do it, and that is not based on "it will" eat it off, just that they can't guarantee it won't.

That being stated, so what if it does? I'm asking, because I don't know. And is there any chance you replace your SC one day, then who cares about the coating on the rotors in the SC. I talked to one of the companies, they said expect about a 5% gain in Hp without a tune, or maybe upwards of 20% with a tune. Seeing as how I was, at the time, looking for a no tune option, when they said 5%, I decided it wasn't for me.

Yah, I'm very curious about this too. I'm seriously considering a Snow Performance Stage 3 unit. With the car going in for all of it's mods in late June, I've got time to do some more research before then. Hopefully some more people with experience chime in.

You should try and inject the water after the Super Charger. I have no idea where though.

When I used these systems in the past I injected the water after the intercooler. I was able to advance my timing quiet a bit as my knock sensor was recording nothing on the dyno.
The most impressive part of it was when I took my engine apart to do some head work, the engine looked brand new inside. Everything was remarkably clean. No carbon anywhere and there was no pitting at all on the piston tops.

I have a buddy who has been spraying pure meth on his zr1 with no issues involving the coating on the rotors at all. Water will cool a little better than pure meth but pure meth will still cool well and won't eat the rotors up

Does he have a pic of the rotorpack since he has been sraying. the web is full of pollished looking tvs rotor from meth injection. Many people are not concered about the added clearnce from eating off the coating it does change it from eatons original design. The coating is there for a reason.

I feel like for a street car that pure meth is dangerous. Comes down to this for me, after reading some stuff from the thread on the Jannetty no tune package, and others, that I feel like I can get to the extra power on pump gas alone from other methods.

Aus, you probably had them leave your warranty on the docks of San Francisco when you had it shipped over and then disassembled and RHD modded.

So, whatever, my goal, and I'm not a tech savvy guy, is CAI and headers(done), pulleys, cam, thermostat, maybe injectors, maybe heads, probably r/x chiller, upgrade intercooler pump, upgrade heat exchanger. I'm thinking here, anyway, to get to 750hp, not wheel, honestly I'd like to maybe push it to 650RWHP, but that would be tops, but I'm skipping over the Meth injection.

I have a full car warranty still. =) GM honours it, and excepts the conversion is compulsory. They just give a warranty on engine and drive train now.

Yeah there are a lot of mods to be done before water injection. BUT... What about the benefits of keeping the internals clean as possible? Does that have enough merit to look at one of these systems.

Also... Is there somewhere to inject after the SC so that no hypothetical damage can be caused to the SCREW rotors?

guys, are you taking into consideration that you;re only spraying meth for seconds at a time, the spray is atomized (more or less) so if you really thinks this really eats rotors you're fooling yourself. Every single person I know sprays meth before the rotors on PD blowers with good results.

If you will go by the argument that it kills rotors, then you should also consider that turning up the boost and of modifying any single part of your motor is putting it in a scenario that its not intended for in its factory trim.

Every mod you add to your car has its calculated risk vs benefit ratio based on which determines if you think a mod is worthwhile or not.

Meth spray on a bone stock car without tuning will give you zero hp, lets say 5. You will only increase power by means of a cooler inlet charge, however that might be cancelled out by the fact that meth is a higher octane and will take more spark advance to make more power from higher octane equivalent fuel.

on a modded ZL1 with a meth system that is TUNED for, you will see benefits thats for sure.
