Auto Trans shifting issues

Rather than duplicate a thread, I searched and read a few dozen and didn't find an answer.
Situation, when I am approaching the shift point from 5 to 6 in auto mode, my V6 Automatic Camaro hesitates on making the shift. If I shift it into neutral and back into drive it does fine. Doesn't feel like the torque converter is slipping but just hesitates to shift. If I give it some more gas and get passed a certain point it shifts into 6th without problems.
Dealer says that they can't duplicate the problem so I was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue.

When I had my '10 SS, I had a similar problem. I can't remember at what rpm it would hang up, but I usually had to shift into neutral to get it unstuck.

I too have this issue....only mine is 3-4. It will just hang in third and even if I let off the gas and then get back in it, it stays in 3rd. If I let off the gas for a good five seconds it eventually hard shifts up to 4th.

My car is headed to the dealer on Friday for a spoiler bolt that's come loose and for what I believe to be an exhaust rattle I've had since day one. I will ask them to take a look at it, but I fear I will get the same dreaded answer you got:

Can not duplicate customer complaint.

Mine does this too.

This is why I almost always drive in "S" mode. Much better.

I would have that problem on interstate exits. It would hold in 3rd or 4th after I'm off the ramp and speeding up. Seemed kind of like it wanted to stay in high rpms as if I was on a track or something. So I never thought it was a problem since it would shift if I got close enough to the rev limit, or if I just waited.

did you get larger/smaller tires? Is this during normal driving AND WOT?

The car is pre-tuned with shift point variables in regards to both fuel economy and to prevent transmission damage. The vehicle has to follow these predetermined rules and make several calculations based on the variables. Which is why sometimes if the A/F Ratio is at a certain point the car must make it to the programmed RPM before shifting, because shifting at the incorrect RPM could result in a greater loss of RPM after the shift thus lowering performance and fuel economy.

IF that made any sense.............

Same here, my SS will sometimes stay in 5th gear after I slow down on the interstate.
When I speed up again to about 70-75 the car stays in 5th gear at over 2200 RPM instead of about 2000 RPM.
I must then go into S mode, manually shift into 6th gear and it will upshift into 6th.
My dealer cannot find anything wrong and GM has been no help.

Thanks all, thought it was just me and my car. And HorsePower-Freak straight stock, except for sequential turn signals. Same tires all stock. Has to go back for the latest convertible fix soon, will have them take a look at it AGAIN@!

I'm getting a slip when mine shifts from 2nd to 3rd. Only happens when I'm kinda on it or WOT. It does have a tune on it so I'm kinda thinking the tune has something to do with it.

Sorry to open an old thread, but I'm having this issue with my car. I never had a problem until I put on my catch can. Is there a possibility that the catch can isn't secure and this is causing it to slip? I'm at a loss. my car is shifting weird in 2-3 gear it will stay super high then finally shift. I don't have a tune. I bought the wheels/tire day one and they were installed by the dealer. Does anyone have any idea?

Well from my experience I had, this sounds very similar to mines. I took my car to chevy and they told me to leave it over night. The tech said he felt the hesitation but He would have to hook my car up to the computer while he is test driving it to see if it throws any codes, so I had to leave it at the dealership an additional day. The next day I received a phone call saying they found nothing and that i would not be charge for the diagnostic test they did. save me $100. But the problem was still there. so at this point I decided to take things into my own hands. I took my exhaust off since I had MRT axle backs and cleaned them out with a water hose, figured this would help if soot was built up inside. re-installed my exhaust. Next I changed out the spark plugs *ACdelco brand* (which had about 30k miles on them). And last I installed a Spectre CIA. (this was the cheapest CAI I could find) I felt like the original black intake wasn't letting enough air get into the engine due to my headlights being retrofitted and pretty much sitting up against the hole for the intake. The car hasn't made the hesitation since. Not sure what actually solved the problem, spark plugs, exhaust, or intake but it has seem to be fixed. I also only use 93 gas even though its a V6. not sure if this will help. But I definitely recommend replacing the spark plugs and the air filter if you have the stock intake.
