Last time I checked, my dealer made it sound like all Camaros they sold came with the LoJack system. It was their way of marking up the price, without actually marking it up...

They definitely don't come with it but yes YOUR dealer is using it to increase profit.

Your Camaro is equipped with OnStar which includes vehicle tracking and on the SS (not sure about the V6) you have the ability for OnStar to slow the vehicle to idle safely for the Police.

Compare the what OnStar does with LoJack before you add a redundant system.

The LoJack works well as we have the LoJack tracking systems in our patrol cars.

We usually get to the cars on a hit within 5-10 minutes of notification. Problem is if car is moving at a decent clip, signal harder to track.

Also, they (LoJack) only gives you a 5 or 6 letter/number or combination of the signal hit. No vehicle info given by the tracking device. Officer has to call the LEIN operator, who hopefully knows how to get the LoJack info, in order to get VIN, color, year, make, plate etc. Lojack is great, but to be honest, I can't tell you how many times we find the Lojack equipped cars burned out, stripped or wrecked because there is a posse of 5-10 cop cars looking for the car. It is better to have the car slowed and disabled with police tracking it through Onstar than Lojack. I have recovered many more intact cars with OnStar than LoJack.

I think the OnStar immobilization, for now, is my ticket, and I work in Detroit.

Just my professional opinion..

On Star is awesome

If I ever feel like running from the cops, On Star will shut me down....

Well.... Glad I'm not a criminal I guess

A good portion of dealerships do this. They contract out a local alarm installer to install alarms on all the cars on the lot. This helps in: selling the system since it's already installed, helps in keeping the cars safer from thieves (at the dealership), and helps the sales guy in that only one key fob is necessary to open ALL the cars.

You are not obligated to pay for the system, and they just deactivate it.

The only negative though is that they ****ed with some of the wiring, so hopefully they did a good, clean job installing.

I just don't understand why just about every car company that puts alarms in the cars don't make them passive. Insurance companies only give the discount if its passive. Also, who wants to carry around another fob. I have a viper 2 way now and love it, but my key is not a switchblade like the one with the camaro.

Yup! It's Martin Chevrolet! They also were charging a ludicrous amount of money for a special clear coat or something they added to the cars.

I don't think I will be getting my Camaro from them, though...

Thank you for that assessment. I often wonder what law enforcement felt was a better system!
