Pop pop!
So I just got my stainless power headers and high flow cats installed. With that, still have the stock tubing, resonators back to my outlaw axleback. LOVE how it sounds at idle, acceleration, and WOT. Question is this....
I know the LS3 "pops" as it decelerates, read lots of posts about people loving it or hating it. When mine pops it is sometimes VERY loud, borderline "wtf". I got my tune from Ted at JRE, and have seen that I could have him tune it out, but I do like it at a little bit lower of a volume. Is there anything I could do to lower the obnoxious popping just a little? X or H pipe? Full 3" exhaust? Maybe it sounds worse from in the cabin? Maybe I should just get used to it and stop being a wuss? Just want to make sure it's normal to sound like a firecracker sometimes Thanks guys!

You need a tune anyway so have your tuner ,tune out the decal pop when he tunes the car .

I'm also tuned by ted and I would've been pissed if he took off the decel pop. I love it especially under a overpass. I do get a lot of stares. Good ones anyways

Is it normal for it to be loud as a firecracker going off though?

Yes-firecracker. I have long tube with hf cats and stock resonators and single chamber cherry bombs with tune and I am concerned enough at times, I just mash in the clutch when I am around drivers that may not appreciate it.

Some people like it, some people don't - you can have a pretty big influence on it in the tuning so if you don't like it just tell your tuner and they can tone it down for you.

Ive had a few different exhaust setups on my car (LS3) and I'll tell you this..
-Stock manifolds, stock cats, stock exhaust w/ muffler deletes = Perfect Amount of decel pops. 70% on the "badass" scale. -Stock manifolds, stock FRONT cats, rear cats deleted, stock exhaust w/ muffler deletes = The craziest amount of super loud firecracker pops i've ever had. Sounded nasty and tolerable. 90% on the "badass" scale. -Kooks 2" Primary Long Tubes, Kooks Cat-Delete (off-road connection pipes), stock exhaust w/ muffler deletes = LOUDEST exhaust i've ever seen or heard in my life, aggressive sonic-bomb explosive sounding decel pops. 95% on the "badass" scale. -Kooks 2" Primary Long Tubes, Kooks cat-delete (off-road connection pipes), Magnaflow resonated X-pipe installed in place of the factory H-pipe on the stock exhaust w/ Muffler deletes = Super clean "muscle car" sound, virtually non-existant decel pops, like literally 20% of the decel pops compared to stock w/ just muffler deletes. -Kooks 2" Primary Long Tubes, Kooks High Flow Cats, Magnaflow resonated X-pipe installed in place of the factory H-pipe on the stock exhaust w/ Muffler deletes = What I have now. Quiet on idle, screams when WOT, very bassy muscle car sound, no smell, maybe to quiet for some. Decel pop is less then stock w/ muffler deletes but you can "force" decel pops by slightly tapping to gas pedal while slowing down in gear. A solid 75% on the "badass" scale. Anyways through my testing, you get MORE pops WITH cats then without, but the biggest contributing factory has been the H-pipe. If you want pops, keep an H-pipe. If you want less pops, get an X-pipe.

Makes sense more with the cats - they are igniting the unburned fuel.

Used to love the fireball that happened when mine would pop on my Formula I had, but I ran catless most of the time with long tubes and borla. You could hear it ignite and it was really cool. More than a few buddies would tell me about the fireball after we would get to where we were going after messing around some.
I like the decel pop, but I don't have a bunch. Stock manifolds, cats, resonator delete, X pipe and Cherry Bomb Extreme. Just enough to know it is there. |

The pop pop may sound kool to some ,but the op said "Is there anything I could do to lower the obnoxious popping just a little" we all know he will need a tune ,so the answer is quite simple . Note his phrase "obnoxious popping " tells you he want's it gone or tamed .
