How long for GM to accept orders into production typically?

Just want to get a feel for how long it is taking folks (or took) to get to code 2000. I put in a preliminary order on 6/1/09 (1100) and as of 6/26/09 have not gotten accepted into production.

I did ask the dealer this week if I am in their current allocations and he said yes, but no movement. I'm in for a long wait I know.

You shouldn't be, not with the production numbers that have been going out, I would ask your dealer what number in priority you are in his current and future allocations. You may have a large dealership with a backlog of orders..

I could be wrong, but 25 days and no movement past 1100 looks to be an allocation problem or a update issue with your dealer.

Yeah, good idea. I know he did say there were a "few" people ahead of me, but that I was in their current allocations. Who knows, it was probably future allocations. He said this week that as soon as he gets an update, he'll let me know. Yes, big dealer--Terry Labonte Chevy in Greensboro, owned by Rick Hendrick, had the VIN #002 car there on May 6--one of the most well-off chevy dealers around. I think the phrase "hurry up and wait" could be used alot on this forum!

It does seem like a allocation issue. It sounds like it could be this to me.....yes we have allocations but he did not mention the allocation might not be available right away. This is what I think is happening a lot at no fault to the salesman. The salesman is not the inventory manager. The salesman's number one goal....produce numbers and again no fault to him. It is not the "salesman" is trying to mess you over more than he just does not know that all the open allocations for this month had been taken and probably was not informed. What he does know is that.....they will have more allocations to come so he thinks nothing of it and just turns the order over to his inventory manager. I suggest once you make your deal or decide on a dealer....bypass your salesman and make sure they have an immediate open allocation for you by asking the inventory manager or the personel who orders the new cars. All large volume dealers are getting allocations but it seems they don't want to disclose that an immediate allocation is not availalbe due to fear of losing the customer or pure lack of communication from managment to sales staff.

If indeed it turns out not to be an allocation problem, seems a lot of us who just recently ordered will be in for a long wait :(

Good explanation DCJ, this was what I was thinking with regard to the salesperson. I do have the inventory manager's # and will contact him. Thanks

Great to hear you tried to contact him. Please keep us posted as to what he says. I am very interested to see if there was a lack of communication on the allocation on the salesman part.

Don

No response from the new car manager from the 6/27 email--that's not a good sign.

Two months plus for me and frustrated. I cant imagine what the October order folks are feeling.... At least my dealer is now calling me with the first chance to be the buyer of other pre-order customers whose deals are falling through. I almost bought a 2SS/RS the other day but the spec's weren't quite what I wanted. Next time I may be all over it....

there's no pattern-
into the system on 4/7/09 @1100
on 6/26/09 it went to 2000.

there is definitely an allocation factor- my dealers production guide number was 15 allocations. as of the 26th when I was pulled, GM has pulled 20 of their orders, mine was 12th of the 15.
