Can OnStar shut down your car?

If the car was stolen could OnStar shut it down?

ON Star has a new slowdown feature that is available on selected vehicles. It slows the car or truck down to 9 MPH after the cops have an actual visual on it and determine it can safely be slowed down. Les chances of deaths and injury in a slow speed chase !

Lets face it, the average car thief is not very bright and probably doesn’t do much research.

It’s only a matter of time till we see a thief on the news getting arrested and cursing out the new Camaro.

OnStar is great

The phone service, while a bit pricey is outstanding. I have called my wife in LA from places in the Sierras even God can't find. Also, after a long day of fishing and drinking beer I somehow lost my Envoy keys but had another set hidden in the car (dumb ass), and OnStar popped that puppy open for me.

You have to call police and report the car stolen and get them involved before Onstar can slow or stop the car.
But yes, if they can make a link with the car's system, they can stop it.

A lot of people do, at least a little bit. This goes hand in hand with having and using more powerful technology though. Still it's not like this is something you can turn off, and have to actually pay for to keep using after the trial period.

I do believe that the slow down feature is extra on the Onstar subscription

Yes all 2010 Camaro's have the slow to idle. It just keeps your power steering on.

Let me tell you that onstar is one of the greatest features available on cars. I won't bore you all with stories, but it's terrific. The idea that they make a high-speed chase a low-speed chase is beyond me -- it's genius.

There are a couple ways to defeat it so a pro can make cake of it in seconds. Someone else blabbed one of the ways how. I won't tell but it's easy enough to figure out.

Add more layers is my advice if your worried about it. Otherwise that's what insurance is for, not to worry.
