Car got broken into..

Soooo I went on vacation south of the boarder - I am Canadian - and had my car broken into. Looks like a classic smash and dash job, got a ton of valuables taken -that where out of sight and well hidden...

My question is...why didn't my alarm go off. When I got back to the car the window was smashed, door ripped open down the middle, speaker ripped out...yet the alarm was not blaring. YET when at the gas station I lock my passengers in and they exit the alarm makes enough noise to wake the dead.

YES, I did lock the door and set the alarm. I very very very 250% certain it was set as I always click the remote to make it beep twice.

With that being said, can anyone recommend a great after market alarm or point me in the right direction of what brands are trust-able and work?

Dude that sucks, sorry it happened to you (From one canadian to another)

Damn americans breaking everything (Im kidddding)

But I am seriously curious about a wicked after market alarm aswell (preferably one with a screen on the remote to see what was opened/broken into)

Sorry that happened to you, that is really too bad. The feeling that comes across when you notice someone intentionally vandalized your beautiful vehicle is sickening.

Sorry that happened man! That really sucks, that guy will get his karma for sure! Maybe the alarm did go off but it turned off after a certain amount of time & the theif was long gone by then. Or he cut some wires like the movies to turn it off real quick.

Thanks a lot guys.

Still pretty much raging on my side here. Upsets me watching people take others stuff, really upset about girlfriends stuff having been jacked. Lots of sentimental value lost. Lots of stuff taken and the damage is just heart breaking to look at. To think such animals exist out there.

I did not know the alarms turn themselves off after a certain period! Although I don't think this was the case as we were fairly close to where the car was parked so we would have heard it.

Don't worry, here in the USA, we have harsh penalties for scumbags, that's why we have such low crime rates. I'm sure when/if they catch this piece of shiz, he'll be given a $100 fine and told to never do it again. Until they decide to PUNISH criminals, may I suggest this (a handy, dandy sentry gun):

I think you should look into this car alarm:

It might be a little dangerous, but criminals won't come back after trying on this bad boy

unfortunately our cars don't detect break-ins the way we would expect. any window can be smashed, as long as the unlock button is hit before the door is opened then the alarm wont go off. so its as simple as hitting the unlock button after the window smash.

but from what I understand from the manual, if the door is forced opened then the alarm will sound. im unsure if the interior handle can be used to open the car without sounding the alarm, but probably not.
