Paint the hood?

As some of you know ive had some paint issues with my new 2014 1LE. To deal with the spots on the hood, the dealership said they could replace the wrap or paint the hood matte black.

Do you think the would come out looking the same? Would that also maybe help with the issues people have keeping it clean, considering it would have a layer of clear coat?

What do you think?

I'd keep the wrap. I have another car that has a painted matte black hood and it doesn't look as good as the wrap and it's harder to keep clean.

Keep the wrap so you will always have the option of removing it with nice silver paint underneath.

Im not sure about a clear coat on top.
But maybe have them re-wrap the hood and put a clear film on top? like a clear bra for the hood.

Clear coat would make it shine.
They do have Matte Clear now though.

Never seen any mentions of the clearcoat over the wrap. But I'd definitely stay away from painting the hood. I'd re wrap it, or just take it off and go from there. Maybe a ZL1 hood insert? I'm even thinking about taking the wrap off and rewrapping it to get the concept hash marks. I know a guy that can do it, but I'm still debating it because of the factory warranty

Paint for sure. The wrap is extremely easy to scratch, you can do it with your finger nail. I have my spolier painted matte black and it is much more durable. Use a good car soap and keeping it clean it won't be hard.

Compared to having people touching the wrap and causing damage.

I'm having mine painted over the winter.

Will just have them match it to the rear spoiler, which is how it should look anyway.

Big difference between matte, satin and flat when it comes to painted finishes. I've painted enough cars, trucks, motorcycles, snowmobiles, motorhomes, custom helmets, ect over the past 20'some years and can say without a doubt that a good body shop can spray a hood that is way easier to maintain than the vinyl wrap. Once I have an issue with my hood I'll be spraying it.

As for clear, no do not clear over the vinyl. But, for many years, not just recently you have been able to make clear matte/satin/flat by adding flattening agent to it. Just like adding flatten agent to single stage colors to flatten them down to your liking.

It's not rocket science but just needs a shop that has their shit together.

Anyone know of someone that has actually painted the hood another color besides flat black? I know that if the wrap is peeld of, it's the color of the car with clearcoat. I was considering painting my hood - but a metallic black.

I painted my entire truck matte black a few summers ago with my dad's help. This is the story of my life. It looks great when it's clean, but then about day or two later...nightmare

I had a hood, roof, deck lid and mirrors on a black car painted flat black.....with a Matte clear coat. My painter explained how hard it would be to take car of and suggested the Matte clear coat for protection. It looked great and no regrets....

Now on the 1LE I like the wrap as a protection for the hood and paint underneath. I know at anytime the wrap can come off or I can have the warp redone if I want....
