Need some advice on passing TX emmissions

Hello Everyone!

I recently bought a 2011 Camaro SS (about 6 months ago). I am a noob when it comes to American Muscle. Here is my challenge.

I found out that the car has long headers and straight back pipes with no Cats (bolt-on) and although the superchip takes the engine light away (o2 sensor and emissions) I know it wont pass the "sniffer" test.

Do all of you have any cost effective solutions in which I can get the emissions up to par. I don't know a whole lot about DIY on this car, however, have read some articles on adding just the Cats. However, I may be wrong, but wouldn't that require cutting the current pipes to fit the Cats in so that the end pipe don't stick out the back? Or am I going to have to find stock headers, Cats, and pipe/mufflers?

I would love to keep the custom headers and exhaust cause the car sounds incredible!!!

Please forgive me if this doesn't make sense to you experts or if I am not using the correct terminology.

Thanks in advance!

Hey - if it has long tubes and a cat back then you should be able to swap the off road mid pipes for high flow cats no problem. Should run around $400 for a pair of cats.

Who has passed a sniffer test with high flow cats? Not saying you can't, just don't know if they are effective enough to pass a sniffer. Didn't know they did the sniffer test in Tx. I thought that was only in a few states like Cali and maybe Virginia.

Sniffer test is on 95 and back vehicles only. Machine will be plugged into obd port and that's it other than safety checks.

Only certain counties do emissions test , Unless they JUST changed that .
The ones I know of that do emissions test : Travis , Williamson . I don't really know of to many others , But then again I don't travel to much .

Brazoria and Harris county too. Answer is simple. Pay the man! $100 is cost effective. What's it cost for an inspection sticker, $40. So your really paying $60 for a sticker. I live in chambers so I'm fortunate enough not to have emissions testing, $15 for me.

Why not go to a shop that doesn't have a Sniff test...

That's free.

I'm pretty sure Dallas County doesn't do a sniffer test. I'm in Denton county and they definitely don't. They just check the computer to make sure there is now CEL. They don't even look under my car to see if it has cats or not.

I haven't had any "Sniff Test" done on my car. If you don't have a check engine light on and all but one of the monitors are set and lights, brakes and tires are in good shape. You should pass with no issues !!

Not all towns in Texas have to do the sniff test. It's only in bigger cities. Find a small town that doesn't and get a PO Box there and have your insurance registered to that PO box.

Remember they do a sniff test and you fail you can't get a sticker till
You fix the problem. They'll charge you twice for the inspection also.

This will work. You can't simply go to a county without the sniff test requirement. The test will be done for what area you live in. So you would have to register in a county without the sniff test.
