Im confused about new tires

So i need some new tires on my camaro. I have aftermarket lexani r-5 rims that are 20" . I want tires that look like those you see on the 1le or the zl1 not talking about the wheels just the tire look. If i were to get 285 35 20 would it fit my 20' lexani's that were originally on 245 45 20 .
Can someone please explain in detail what the first 2 numbers mean ( 245 and 45) i know one is the side wall and the higher the number does it slightly change the way the tire looks? I want the ring from my lexanis to wrap around the outer edges as much as possible ( low profile as some people say).

What are your wheel widths? the first number is the width of your tire. the second number is the ratio of the tire from the wheel to the top of the tire compared to your width. Having your wheel sizes would be the biggest help of all.

Oh I'm not sure about width I only know they are 20" and when I got them they fit 245 45 20. How would I find out can I just take some measuring tape to it?

1st number ( 245 ) is the width left to right...... the 2nd ( 45 ) number is the height of the side wall from the rim to the face of the tire
