Glass Roof?

Does anyone know if there's going to be a glass roof option for the Camaro? Either factory or aftermarket? If so I'll forget about getting the sunroof, and get the glass roof later. I had one installed on my 06 Saleen and I love it.

I doubt it, but I guess who knows? From what I've heard, having a glass roof would keep the Camaro from passing the 2012 safety standards. But like I said, who knows?

Glass is heavy, expensive and unsafe imho. If you want to look at the sun, drop the top baby!

How is it unsafe? CDC (who developed the Glass Back for the S197 Mustangs before it was an option) had a customer get broadsided... of course the side windows broke but so did the front windshield and back window... But amazingly the glass top survived! The glass roof is made of TWO sheets of safety glass with a special film between them...

I also passed Tech inspection at some nation level drag racing events... No issues there...

From the CDC website:

- Engineered to maintain all factory structure, we went the extra mile to assure your safety and comfort.

- The Glassback system was decibel tested for noise penetration and validated to Federal Safety Standard FMVSS-216 for rollover protection.

If the Glassback was "unsafe", CDC would have a huge legal exposure.... They would be out of business in a hurry!

So it's really very unfair to just say it's "unsafe"....

As far as heavy.... put a glass top in an you are still going to be lighter than a convertible! And the Glassback is treated as a coupe at the race track... 13.49 or faster in a Vert and you are install a rollbar!

rollover is what I'm worried about, or if it shatters/breaks while you're right side up and falls in on you.

nothing to worry about...

Roof structure stays completely intact. No worries...

It's also made of safety glass like your windshield so it's not going to really shatter and fall in on you... Has your windshield ever shattered and fell in on you?
