Airbag light on after steering wheel install...HELP

I have a 2010 SS Camaro and today i installed a 2013 Z28 suede wheel and 2013 airbag. All wiring was a direct swap bu now i have a sevice airbag l message and light. Is there a learn procedure or will this neef to be programmed by a dealer for this airbag? Any help would be appreciated.

Do you happen to turn the key to the on position when the air bag was unplugged? That may be the issue. If not, I'd double check the wiring.

Thr key was never turned on during install. I disconnected the negative battery terminal. The wiring was plug and play

Interesting I didn't know you could swap a 12-15 steering wheel onto a 10/11 model. Cool post up when you figure it out.

Quite a few others have done it over the past few years. A couple people have even put a 6th gen steering wheel on a 5th gen. I may go that route sometime soon.

This should not need to be programmed.

Makes me wonder if something happened to the clockspring when you took it out or if you need to re-seat a cable?

I did this swap without a problem. No programming needed.

Yup. I have a 2014 ZL1 flat bottom leather wheel on mine. Was a great upgrade over stock, especially when it comes to the Tap-Shift paddles and ergonomics.

I am going to pull the wheel tomorrow and look at it. I think i know whats wrong. The airbag i bought for a camaro is actually for a cruze. Not sure if that matters but they are different part numbers.

OK, thanks for that, I was thinking the system did not recognize the device; sounds like it doesn't but for another reason.

Double check your connectors to your airbag to make sure they are all of the way in and the buttons on top of the connectors are pushed down to be secured. Also make sure the connectors aren’t reversed, pull a pic from the 2012 airbag removal DIY thread here on Camaro to make sure. Otherwise has to be the clock spring. I’ve done the swap twice on 2 different cars never got a service airbag light.

I will double check that. They are color coded connections i thought i hooked them up right. Im thinking its the airbag because it was for a cruze not a camaro.

You might have pulled out one of the wires out when removing the stock steering wheel. That happened to me when I changed out my stock steering wheel to a Grant steering wheel. I had the airbag light on and had to get it fixed.

.

What it came out of doesn’t matter as long as it has the 2 connections on it.

I only say that after talking to a few people about the ohm resistance being different from car to car on the air bags. Is there no difference? They have different gm part numbers.
