3.73 gears
Hey everyone, I've got yet another question for you guys. I just recently got my RPO code list again after having it gone after my grandpa (initial owner) got hit on the driver's door and had to get a new door (with no RPO sticker). ANYWAY, I checked the code list and I was noticing I have currently have 2.73 ratio gears on my car and I looking to upgrade to 3.73 for my A4. I found a set on eBay, but it looks kind of sketchy, I wanted some of your input. Thanks

As always, LS1tech will have much more in depth info, but Im sure that you cant just throw in 3.73's because you have a 2 series carrier (ie 2.73), and will need a 3 series carrier. Its been a while since I've did any reading about rear ends. but there are some in depth threads on ls1tech.

My 2001 Z/28 had the 2.73's I ordered a set of 3.73's from Summit Racing w/ the proper install kit. All in all I paid around $350 for the gears and install kit plus $300 to have it installed the only thing you will need to do is have the Speedo re-cal. So far the gears have made a world of difference I found my missed power ![]() Sean

Same here I had 2:73s in my 69 and ordered a set of 3:73's from Richmond, but I added a Eaton posi unit also. I'd double check it, How much?

What I would do is make sure to get the right carrier style gears, get gm gears, and order a speedo recalibration tune(with upgraded performance tuning) and I'd call it a day.

some mods like this will make you faster but not literally add power. Your engine will perform the same as far as hp levels, but it will rev faster because of more leverage against the weight of the car.
a car with a 2.73 will most likely pull kinda soft on the low end of the speedo and pretty damn hard on the top when compared to a 4.10 geared car which will get off the line quicker but will probably not have as high a top speed as the car with the 2.73s There's always a compromise. Don't get it twisted though, I know guys with 4.10s who can do 150mph easier. I bet past that the pull would slow compared to a 2.73 car, but the 4.10 car would get to about 150 faster. General rule of thumb is 4.10s for ls1 m6 and 3.73 for ls1 a4

2.73's are pitiful in these cars. I have 3.73's in my 2000 SS m6. They were on the car when I bought it but id say 4.10's would be even better if I was having some installed.

? What you described sounds like it would fit all my needs. The carrier, the gears, and everything.

from what I hear the stock '02 Corvettes have 2.73s if they're a4. The other day I showed a 2.73 owner how bad his gears sucked before I got home

Haha I know what you mean. It never crossed my mind that I should switch out the gears. I was thinking every other mod in the book other than gears lmao. After brakes and tires, my gears are definitely the next thing on my list
