Mod the ZL1 fascia to match lines of SS or not?
Mod the ZL1 fascia to match lines of SS or not?
I'm looking at getting the ZL1 front fascia from Gary's Custom and do y'all think that I should get the fascia moded? I may be changing out the hood at some point here and don't know if the selection is larger for the ZL1 hoods or the SS hoods. Can one live with an unmodded ZL1 fascia on an SS with the SS hood? |

For the most part, the hoods available in the aftermarket tend to line up with the SS hood lines since that was the only thing available for a good 2.5 years after the 5th Camaro hit the market. The ZL1 doesn't have any aftermarket hoods that match its lines that I'M aware of.
While it is possible to not move the lines on the ZL1 fascia, it won't look that great up close due to the way the reflections look like due to the different bends. My choice would be to mod it.

Make sure you get someone who knows how to mod the lines correctly if you go that route. Too many times I've seen it simply notched out, and while the notch is located at the hood bend, it's a whole lot more angular than it needs to be and actually looks slightly worse like that IMO. It's a gradual slope and bevel. Look at your current fascia and you'll see it's sloping and not notched.
I did not mod the lines on the ZL1 front end I put on the 2010. I'm still contemplating on putting on the ZL1 hood or not, thus I'll need those lines in the fascia to match if I do. It's not that bad, but I do notice it. Nobody else has said anything though. (Most don't have a clue what the SS or ZL1 difference is anyway)

If you like them, sure. Why not? They're not super simple to replace from what I've seen, but they're not very difficult either. The main thing with any of all this is make sure you can get someone to match the paint as close as possible.

I believe the ZL1 rockers are not hard to install. The GFX were super easy. Clips and 3M tape. I like the ZL1 rockers, but I like the GFX more.
