Cash for Clunkers on a New Camaro ?
Think I can get a $4500 credit on my 98 Jeep Cherokee if I trade it in when I order a new Camaro ?
There is no info on this about the Camaro on the Chevy website so..... I could get a $4500 Credit if I trade it in on a Rav4 but that wouldn't be cool or help out with my midlife crisis. |

Make sure you're going to make the MPG requirement?

Sorry, I forgot to include this link http://www.cars.gov/ GM won't have anything on their site, this is a federal gov thing. If you qualify, the dealer does it all from what I've read.

I thought the car had to be at least 25 yrs old from the date you wish to trade it. I could be wrong.

From the Link www.cars.gov
Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the trade-in date Only purchase or lease of new vehicles qualify Generally, trade-in vehicles must get 18 or less MPG (some very large pick-up trucks and cargo vans have different requirements) Trade-in vehicles must be registered and insured continuously for the full year preceding the trade-in You don't need a voucher, dealers will apply a credit at purchase Program runs through Nov 1, 2009 or when the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first. The program requires the scrapping of your eligible trade-in vehicle, and that the dealer disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in. The scrap value, however minimal, will be in addition to the rebate, and not in place of the rebate. |

The only Camaro that meets the "new car" requirement of 22mpg combined on the window sticker is the V6 Automatic (LS or LT). No other Camaro will qualify (V6 manual, V8 manual, V8 Automatic).
If your Jeep (according to Fueleconomy.gov) gets between 12.1 and 18mpg combined, then you'll get $3500 towards a Camaro (V6 Auto only). If it gets less than 12mpg or less combined, then you'd get the full $4500 towards a Camaro (V6 Auto only).

I checked it out. The LS/LT will get you a rebate but the SS does not.

Actually the SS does. As long as it's over 4MPG combined improvement over the old vehicle, it works. My Explorer has a revised average of 15mpg. An SS has 19mpg combined; and as part of a class II truck requirement in the system, it works.
So I do get 4500 + Scrap Value for the truck. Couple that with GM grad discount.. I could be shaving almost 7K off of a 32K 1SS Camaro. |
