Angry GM Card is screwing Me Over

Has HSBC cancelled anyone else's GM card? I got my statement the other day and I had no balance, ($3 credit actually), but it also said my credit limit had been adjusted, to $0. I called up and got an indian call center where they had no reason for what happened. I emailed them through the website, and they told me my account had been closed due to inactivity (I used it about a month before they closed it!) and that I have 90 days to use my earnings or they'll disappear. That means they expire august 1st. It is highly unlikely I'll be buying a car by then. Has anyone else been ****ed over like this? I've been a cardmember since 2001, and went about 5 years without using it without any problems. I started using it again about a year ago when I decided to maybe buy a camaro. All I can say is, no wonder GM is going bankrupt, with all the crap they put you through when trying to buy a car.

Just got a letter from them telling me they topped off my earnings to $2000 and I could use them towards the purchase of a new GM automobile. 2 drawbacks, I have to use it by June 30 (probably not getting delivery before then) and the Camaro was not on the list of vehicles I could use it for.

I've gotten temporary top-off's as promotions before. Haven't been interested in any GM vehicles since I ditched my Blazer for an RX-8 in 2004. But I'm told (i assume from this forum) that you can use $1000 of GM Card money towards a Camaro. I'm not buying until GMAC leasing come back. However long that takes.

I just want you to know that this isnt GM but its HSBC. I have one credit card through them that Ive had for almost 2 years and use it just for gas but that is stopping this month.

HSBC screwed up last months payment. I had it set to autopay and they said that the account # was wrong. Nope, they were right. Called the bank and they said that they didnt even try to take out a payment. So in the end I had to pay a $30 returned payment fee that didnt exist. No longer going to use that card and close it at the end of this month.

I'd be happy to close it if they wouldn't be screwing me out of my $1600 in the process.

Oh and my credit score also went down 50 points recently. Now I know why.

The credit limit decrease is why. When and if you cancel the card your score should go back up.

The card IS cancelled. They closed the account without even notifying me. The guy I talked to on the phone said he was going to put in a request to reinstate the account. But we got disconnected so I don't know if he actually did it or not.

Oh duh. Sorry man.

Get another card to replace it and your credit score will more than likely go up or be even higher.

If you don't use the card they don't make money and the interest you pay is not the only way they make money (costs the retailer to accept CC's). So whats the point of having a customer who does not make you money? The financial mess is forcing the CC company's trim costs so getting rid of in-active accounts is a way to do that.

I have had a GM card since 1993 and NEVER have I paid them a dime in interest and I use my card for everything. My lifetime earnings redeemed is $9,511.87 not counting the added bonus's they gave me on several occasions like on the recent CTS, $500 rounded up to $2110.10 in Jan.

they did the same with me, just sent me a letter. I called to protest it, and they said there isn't anything I could do except apply for another card. My deal was I hadn't used it in a while, and had $0 balance. A lot of card companies are doing that, trying to weed out their "deadbeat customers". To the credit card companies, a deadbeat is someone who pays on time, and gets rewards, or has $0 balance.
