Separated my clutch reservoir tonight

Well I decided to separate my clutch reservoir tonight. I posted more details of my experience and a couple of pics in brakes sub-forum here:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=297794

Check out how dirty the fluid is in the new clutch reservoir even after mixing it with some brand new clean fluid and then pumping the clutch about 40 times. I'll have to get some more clutch fluid and change it out a couple more times. BTW my car only has 923 miles on it too.

This mod has my interest. For $100 it might just be worth it.

It's worth it! I did it with just a few hundred miles on, too.

After a tank mine is almost bronze.

I did this mod as well..
Great peace of mind mod!
The install was cake with exception of the annoying stock clamp against the firewall that I couldn't get too, but with the purchase of some extra long needle nose pliers, problem solved..

I have the kit sitting on my shelf, just haven't gotten to it yet Wasn't looking forward to bleeding brakes or clutch.

As long as you don't pump the brakes or the clutch while you have the reservoir off and the clutch hose off the clutch master cylinder then no air will get past either of those two points and you won't have to bleed the system (unless you want to flush the fluid in both systems with all new fluid).

Then when you put the new clutch fluid in the new separate clutch reservoir I just had to wiggle the new clutch hose around up and down and in towards the brake master cylinder to get the air bubbles to start coming out. Then I would lightly tap on the clutch hose to help the bubbles work them selves out and again I would keep wiggling the hose around up/down, and in towards the brake reservoir again. If you put clutch fluid in and it fills up the new reservoir right away but doesn't drain down into the hose then you know that none of the air came out of the hose.

I haven't had a chance to really drive my car after the install but from moving it around in the garage I didn't feel like there was any air in the clutch or the brake system.

I hate to sound dumb, but what is the purpose of this mod? I drove our WS6 for over 10 years and 175,000 plus miles and only had to service the clutch once, and never had any problems. What does this fix?

You will notice that your WS6 also had a clutch fluid reservoir that was separate from your brake fluid reservoir. They were not shared. I have a 2002 Camaro SS 6-speed so I have already looked to see how that was configured.

I did not realize that the reservoir was shared on these Camaros as I am still waiting to get ours, but yes, two reservoirs on the old Pontiac. Has this caused any problems to speak of? Both systems should be sealed, so it is hard for me to see any contamination, but I could see heat from the brakes cooking the fluid, and possible adversely effecting the clutch.....especially if the car were tracked.
