Foggy/hazy inside RS headlights... most likely condensation.
Like the title says... I got haze INSIDE my headlamps. Condensation, I'm pretty sure.
I love how it got really noticeable right after my bumper-to-bumper warranty expired. ![]() Anyway, the car is a 2011 Camaro 1SS w/ RS, 42,000 miles, had it since September 2010. I've noticed the haze for around the past 6 or 7 months but it hasn't gotten to a point where it's upsetting me until now; especially since I've applied a couple potential fixes to see if they would stop the problem (which they have not). What I've done so far: - I have an install of headlight armor on my headlamps to protect them from the elements. I figured that maybe the headlight armor was just starting to yellow and haze up a bit since they were going on 3 years. No problem, just order a new set for $40 and took off the old ones... negative. After I peeled off the old headlight armor, that's when I discovered the haze was inside the headlights. - I've tried removing the cap that you remove to replace the bulbs and driving with the headlights on to heat up the inside and let the moisture escape before replacing the cap. Didn't do anything... might've made it worst. (I am in South Florida...) I'm pretty sure it's condensation since it gets noticeably worst when the humidity is high or when I'm washing the car, however it's not so bad that it actually forms visible droplets. Right now it just looks like a light haze or fog. I want to nip this problem in the bud but before I do what I know needs to be done, I need to know if it's worked for other people who have had this issue. I know I will have to remove the headlamps, use all measures to completely dry out the inside, separate the lens from the rear housing, put another bead of butyl rubber around the seam where the lens meets the rear housing, push them back together, check for any additional leaks, bake them for 10 mins in the oven, and maybe even get a new gasket for the cap you screw off to replace the bulb. But before I blow an entire day doing that, I need to know if it worked for others who have had this problem. Whatever the case, getting new headlamps is not an option unless I want to switch to non-RS headlights. This isn't some normal car where I'm only out ~$100+ bucks to get brand new OEM headlights. These RS headlamps are... well, you know. I'll need lube. Please help. Last edited by nUcLeArEnVoY; 03-25-2014 at 10:26 AM. |
