From what I have heard, they are better for the environment. Horsepower wise, they make pretty much the same on the dyno. You would only be spending more money just to be friendly to the environment.

Here is a little info I found on them.

Quote:
Are you a die hard racer looking to improve exhaust flow and gain some horsepower the legal way? For years past, it has been a tremendous problem when facing the EPA standards, to pass emissions with racing catalytic converters. Good news is Kooks Custom Headers and Exhaust has spent the last 4 years developing a High Flow Catalytic Converter that both makes horsepower and is eco-friendly. Global Emissions Systems Inc or GESI has worked with Kooks in the development and now the manufacturing of this unique product. Named the “GREEN” catalytic converter, it is 49 state EPA legal and still flows as much as high performance catalyst. This converter will not set off your Check Engine Light and does not require tuning to pass emmissions! They are only available from Kooks Headers and Exhaust and being unveiled at the 2012 SEMA Show!
It looks like the biggest benefit is that you will not get a CEL, and will not require a tune. We have these as well as all other Kooks products in stock at excellent prices. Feel free to Call, PM or email me with questions!

Best regards,

Tyler

to each their own. this gives the people not wanting to tune for whatever reason a viable option for longtubes and hiflo cats. also gives the tree hugger types an option as well.

i am truly happy with mine. kooks 1 7/8 headers with their green cats. couldnt say anything bad about them.

chevy v8 driving tree hugger

The no-tune selling point is however a good one.

You can emit a lot of carbon dioxide and consider that good for the environment. That's no different than breathing. It's the other stuff that is bad. It's bad for more than the environment. It's bad for you. If you can take the unnatural chemicals that result from combustion out via the cats, you can effectively drive a green Camaro. You can get your low-mileage V8 and still be good for the environment. Everybody wins.

I've always thought of myself as part of the environment. I am all for win win... and the kooks is solid technology, just a little jaded I guess. I still think the funniest thing on the highway is a speeding prius.

if you ever do research on the "carbon footprint" of a Prius...in everything it takes to make those it out weighs what an American SUV or truck would do in a lifetime of driving

Since I live in CA and will eventually have to get a smog in the future then it's worth it for to pay the extra money for the green cats and pass smog versus having to find someone that will give me a "illegal" smog or pay to swap my headers out twice (to stock then back to my Kooks)

Green Cats will pass Texas emissions testing without any "adjustments"
