Has anyone done any DIY showstopper style covers?
I like the look of the showstopper premium covers, but waaay to expensive. I can easily paint, hydrodip, add rivets etc. to things. Just wondering if anyone has made something similar and what they used for the main part of the cover (metal, plastic or something else).
Personally been keeping my eye or for things I can re purpose into different covers. But i thought maybe someone has already been down this road and can give some input. Thanks! |

They are all metal. Its the curve of the cut and welding that might be the issue.
The actual engine covers are Roto Fab over the block. This is very heavy duty construction. However the covers for the Radiator shroud and other areas are thinner type metal just cut to fit. The metal on metal pieces (where one side is painted and then another metal piece sits on type in hydrocarbon) are just double sided taped on and the rivets are cut off just to allow small bit to screw in. Takes time and effort to do. Showstopper has great stuff and have his underhood package on mine. In fact waiting for the Roto Fab covers to arrive any day with specail added touch from Showstopper. Sometimes get what you pay for. In this case you do |

I am talking about just the metal on metal pieces - ABS Cover, Battery Cover, Fuse Box, Master Cylinder, Wire Harness.
While they are very nice I cannot bring myself to spend $550 on the set, I'm a big DIY person anyway. These are mostly just square boxes with 1 or 2 sides removed with the exception of the Fuse box cover. I am actually looking at some polycarbonate (lexan) enclosures which I can get in many different sizes and be able to modify to make my covers. With clear ones of these you could even paint the inside to give a deeper look to the paint, will have to test in person to see if I like the way that looks. But Lexan is easy to cut without cracking (unlike plexi) and is also very heat resistant so I think it would work out well. But I wanted to put a feeler out to see if anyone else had already made something on their own and what they used. If nothing comes up I'll just be playing around with some thing and when I find something that looks and works well I'll make a DIY for it. |

There is a post somewhere on here where a guy did his own. He used paper or cardboard to make mock up sides for the covers you mentioned. He cut the metal then welded then sanded and paint. It looked good onces all said done. Will look for thread.
