Cold air intake?

Will a cold air intake effect gas mileage? If so in a negative or positive way?

Generally a positive effect to the tune of 2-4 MPG on a good intake such as air raid or CAI...but the cheaper models expect it to be the same.

However I didn't notice any change in milage positive or negatively when I added my CAI.

Theoretically your should see a small improvement due to eliminating restriction and adding efficiency. In reality you will probably see no change whatsoever. Maybe a slight decrease if you use more throttle because you like the sound of the intake howling.

And what do you think the best intake of choice is for a 2SS? I see a lot of people talking about air raid. And will the car need any tune change for use of a cold air intake?

This +1, once that LS3 starts breathing at 3500+ it sounds like its growling.

You can also expect to hear a high pitched whistling sound when you give it gas. I've been told this is normal with CAIs. It's a bit annoying but I've gotten used to it.

FWIW, I put in a K&N CAI about 5 months ago. The car definitely sounds meaner though I have not seen an improvement in gas mileage.

As my tuner put it regarding needing a tune with CAIs, "Air going to the MAF is everything".

If you're not going with headers, I'd add a ported TB then get it tuned.

For people like me who take long road trips on cruise control - you'd see a fair gain in MPG. The rest of the time, not so much LOL.

Maybe something is loose? My cold air inductions has no whistle.

Odd. I even posted the question here on Camaro5 and was told that the high pitched whistle was to be expected with the CAI. Here's the link to the thread:

My MPG went down 2 MPG after installing the Airaid c.a.i., but I also performed the #5 and #20 fuse pull to reset the computer to run premium fuel performance again. And I floor it a lot more now.
