carbon fiber care

my hood and trunk are starting to get a little hazy.

I searched the web, found one guy who details stuff and polishes it to make it look like new.

I found these:

http://www.detailedimage.com/Ask-a-P...-carbon-fiber/

http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...bon-fiber-hood

http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...ing-Hazing-now

has anyone polished their carbon fiber body parts to make it look like new?

is it clear-coated? If it is then you should just treat it like regular automotive paint.

+1. I'm 99% sure it probably is cleared but if you can just confirm it'll help us help you.

If it's clear coated, just treat it like car paint.. clay, polish, protect...

However, there is such a huge variety in the quality of carbon fiber, as well as the quality (if any) clear coat put on top to protect it.

If it bare, glossy carbon, then the resin will fade and oxidize quickly. You can polish it a little bit, but eventually it is a losing battle.

If it's cheap clear coat over carbon fiber, or clear coat over cheap carbon fiber, the fiber resin can still oxidize with time, and you can get damage under the clear coat that is impossible to fix.

I found a website (detailedimage.com) that covered polishing of carbon fiber body parts.

It was pretty much right on; I used the same stuff the guy used in the blog, and the hood looks like new again.
I was really worried, several people told me that it couldn't be fixed.
