Foam Lance and Common Car Shampoo Comparison

I picked up a MTM Hydro lance off amazon a few weeks ago and today was the first nice day to see the guy in action. I’m sure everyone has been “gifted” car products, so I wanted to see each product in action with my new foam gun.

The MTM is pretty much the exact same, if not the same, foam cannon offered by a lot of the popular detail websites out there. This one works with just about any power washer as long as it produces over 1100 psi and flows under 5gpm.

My small power washer is an 1800psi/4gpm electric power washer. I used 2-3oz of each product in the lance to keep it fair. Granted Adams vs “over the parts counter” brands really isn’t fair anyway, but oh well... I figured everyone had a bottle or two of these and it would be nice to see the difference. Also remember the more product you pump into the lance the more foam you will get. I know some products don't work well with foamers, but since this foam gun is air injected it should foam up just about any car shampoo.

Products:

Black Magic:

Meguiar's:

Adams:

End result:
The foam lance rocks and Adams smells really good going through it.

Very nice! How much was that particular foam gun?

Nice. Yes, foam cannons are a lot of fun. I've found that I pretty much never actually bother to get the pressure washer out anymore, but it is fun once in a while.

Just curious on your testing, did you rinse between each one?

How much cling did you get with each?

Yep. Each one we rinsed between the next. The Adams had the best cling for sure. I was able to walk around and spray the whole car and the first part was still nice and foamy. The Meguiar's had a little cling, but it wasn't a lot. I'd like to compare some of the different high end shampoos ie mr pink and honeydew snow.

That's exactly what I'd expect. Adam's shampoo is in the elite category.

Honeydew is supposed to be great in a cannon. I've also heard good things about Maxi-Suds II if you're looking for others to try.

I would imagine with how ridiculously ammo foam paint cleanser suds that it would be absolutely amazing in a foam gun ... But absurdly expensive I would imagine...

A foam gun is different then a foam cannon, the gun hooks up to your garden hose while a cannon hooks up to a pressure washer....two total looking foamers. From Amazon the Lance Foam Cannon goes for $64.99, a Gilmour Foam goes for $49.99.

Just a couple of many video on youtube.

Whoops my bad. Didn't mean to get the nomenclature wrong.

I wish I could do this. But I couldn't bring myself to spend that much $$ on shampoo per wash.

Honestly it's a night and day end result difference when you use the good shampoo vs parts counter stuff. We have 2 black vehicles, one being the camaro and the other a DD in the photos above. We use the generic stuff on the DD and the good stuff on my camaro. Sitting side by side, before wax, they touch and look completely different.

I still use quality soap, I use optimum. I'm just saying the amount used per wash for foam isn't justifiable for me personally.

That's not because of the soap though. That's because you take better care of the Camaro's paint.
