ethanol free vs top tier
Okay I tried searching & no results. If you have the choice of ethanol free gasoline with a good octane level is this better or just stick with top tier fuels? I know the top tier thing has to do with detergent levels but is the detergent because of the ethanol? Or would one still need to be concerned about how much detergent is in an ethanol free gasoline? Come on C5 another lesson for Ms Ruby.
And what about this stuff:

I usually use top tier (when I can), always 93 octane...but throw in Techron every oil change. I was under the impression that Stabil is more for when you are parked longer than a month.

Techron is a patented fuel additive developed by the Chevron Corporation, usually consisting of gasoline mixed with 400 ppm of polyetheramine.[1] With the introduction of Techron, Chevron gasolines became designated as meeting Top Tier standards for fuel cleanliness. Chevron gasolines with Techron were some of the first gasolines to be named as a “Top Tier Detergent Gasoline”.[2] “Top Tier Detergent Gasoline(s)” are agreed to lead to better performance in engines by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Audi.[2]
Techron was introduced in May 1995, and the Chevron Cars made their debut to promote this introduction in advertising. Techron is available at Chevron, Texaco, and Caltex stations in all three grades of gasoline.[3] Techron is also available as a packaged concentrate, for use with lower quality gasoline ("under-additized"). Posted this as well as I know some believe...some dont. But most higher end dealers (any manufacturer) will sell a rebranded bottle of Techron for a very high price. I usually get bogo at Autozone.

GM sells Techron rebranded as GM fuel system treatment. MSDS shows the same content and that its made by Chevron.

The Stabil is for long term fuel storage.
I assume the ethanol variety addresses the issues caused by ethanol in the fuel. Ethanol attracts moisture from the air. Ethanol blended gasoline should be stored in an air tight container for this reason. I use Top Tier gasoline every time I can. Usually Shell V-Power. Why? More detergents. It's really hard to get an engine too clean inside. |

The v8 is better on e40 and no tune as it adds more fuel as long as the mix stays the same.
Honestly buy 93 octane with ethanol, your wasting money by not doing so. Added bonus is an extra horse or two and a cleaner emmision. no ethanol is for legacy equipment, like carburated boats and weedwhips |

The Stabil 360 is advertized as having an evaporant component that helps with cleaning the upper portions of tank, engine, etc that the liquid fuel detergent has difficulty dealing with. I have the LLT engine that has significant diffucluties with build-up. I have a catch can & plan to get the 1LE separator for the "clean" side but with all the timing chain, dissappearing oil, engine oil leaks & blown LLT engines, I just wondered if either ethanol free or using this treatment might help with any of that.

After 100k miles you might want to look into dealer provided fuel system cleaning if the car feels slugish..... injectors throttle body. be sure to check your oil level and keep it filled so it dosent go past half way down the hatch marks all will be fine |

ethanol free
I like the ethanol free, even the lower grades seem to run better. Why would you want deluted fuel anyway? A gallon of ethanol is about 85,000 btu"s where gasoline is about 125,000 btu"s if im remembering correctly. My daily driver notices and difference within about 20 miles of a fuel up. Just wish the station was closer.

I always use top tier premium fuels and nothing else. The ethanol is added to modern fuels because it makes the gas ignite and burn hotter. This in turn gives better fuel economy and is cleaner on your fuel system. I don't add anything to my fuel ever. Never used a catch can and don't have any oil in my throttle body ever. Ethanol free gas is meant for carbureted engines that can't handle the ethanol additive. You won't see any benefit with using ethanol free fuel and will pay substantially more to do so.

Stay away from additives. For stock engines, run 10% ethanol max. It's hard to find ethanol-free fuel anywhere these days, but you should run 89 or 91 octane with or without ethanol.

1 gal of ethanol 85,000btu's added together = 1,335,000 total btu's 11 gal gas = 1,375,000 btu's doesnt seem like much but the more ethanol used the less power and fuel economy you are going to have. Want power out of ethanol, add a blower and lots and lots of fuel. |

Interesting. I knew this would be an area of differing opinions. Just not many folks chiming in with the facts or data backing those up so far.
