On Star
 Has anyone disconected thier OnStar System and if so how'd you do it? If a fuse was pulled, does the fuse control anything else??

I guess by the responses that No-one has disabled On-Star. OK---when I get the car I'll post exactly how to do that.

I know on my AV there is a fuse.I believe that is all it is for.
Why disable it? My insurance gives me 30% discount on liability for having it. $$$ in NJ. Yes I know there is a long thread on this site; onStar is Big brother watching you. But in my truck club I have Seen members have there Rides stolen and not have the onStar activated. Lets just say things did not go very well. My $0.02 |

OnStar is a fantastic service! I have been driving around with it for 5 years. The turn by turn nav is great and you also have remote diagnostic that identifies a potential problem as it happens. The car will email you once a month with updates on your oil pressure your brakes and air pressure on each tire. It is free for the first year. Not sure why someone would not want that?

If its like the other older versions find the On* computer box and hit it with a hammer real good.
If you want to do it more gracefully just cut the communication wire or ground if nothing else is tied into it.. You'll set off a code, but it should stop it. Just hit the button and see if something happens. |

I guess if you are doing a huge mass reduction program and wanted to remove the OnStar module all together that would be one thing. But I can't imagine what is so bad in your mind that you just want to disconnect it. You get all the features free for a year. And Turn by Turn alone is worth the price of admission.

Probably NOT going to do anything with On-Star, just wanted to see if it could easily be defeated.

Paranoid is not a good state to live in. Just do not pay for the service if you do not want it. I personally think it is worth it for the security/Theft thing alone.
