spare etc...???

My car went right in to storage out of state as I just don't have the time to drive it to put the 1500 soft miles on it...but...I have never driven a car without a spare AND I plan to drive this everywhere so flame away but I have to ask these:

Spare tire
I would like to get a space saver. Could a space saver fit on this car and where would I start to find one? Or maybe a cheap cast wheel with cheap tire? No jack with the car but I can get that. If I did find a space saver would running 100 miles on it jank up the suspension?

Flatbed towing
In the hopefully unlikely event of needing a flatbed tow…where is the tow hook??? I did not get one.

lug torque
is it 110?…or 140? Lugs do seem to have a blue tint in the thread area?

frame tow hooks
last car used the holes in the front frame rails with these t-hooks http://goo.gl/lss3i7 using set length chains in front and ratchets in rear. Does anyone have the exact size t-hook?

getting out in a trailer
last car was not bad crawling out the window and we even installed a bar to help pull yourself up and out. The z’s windows are smaller and I anticipate it being much harder. Lay a cover on seat before you drive it in and wear socks only or maybe just winch it in?

brake fluid
I must say having to redo all the brake fluid is a punt. I thought we could drive it right from showroom to track? The car has special everything else and should have the best fluid already in it. I will use ap racing super 600 unless there is a reason for something else/better?

front plate
not gonna do it…it just looks horrible…john law takes exception to this here in nys…so we will see.

spare key
Does the key fob have a chip in it? Could I get a regular flat key made without the fob?

alarm
Does the alarm have glass or tilt sensors?

width
looking at the car it appears the mirrors are not the widest point?...if true the width is 76.9?

BTW…I did fit all 4 trofeos wrapped in plastic bags (tires only) in the car but the one in the trunk needed some massaging so maybe if I were to remove the battery cover an actual full size wheel with tire might fit but this is just for getting 4 track wheels to the track…I want a space saver because I will trailer.

Good list you posted.
I'd like to see those questions answered myself, as I'll be getting a 2015.

...Pretty sure a couple of states, (New Hampshire..??) required a spare set up from the factory for the Z/28....It might be space-saver enough....

No spare. I wouldn't do it. Get a little inflator kit and a plug kit.

Cross your fingers, and pray the doesn't have to be towed. Maybe be able to remove the splitter and put the spring blocks(having a brain fart---what are these called ?) in---if car is ever towed or trailer

If I were worried about flats, I'd run ZP/EMT/Runflats for daily driver use.

They make some pretty high performance runflats now.

Lots of supercars come with them now.

Pilot Sport PS2's ZP's:

It's becoming more and more important to find some acceptable 18's or 20's for the Z/28.

Hard to believe but there are NO runflats in the OEM size, and very limited other choices for 19x11 rims. If you are 18 or 20, you have lots of choices.

My 1LE came with the inflation/plug kit - the Z28s don't?? Weird?

All interesting points that I'm curious about too.

Thanks for the info on fitting Trofeos into the car. This makes me think that 3 in the back seat 1 in the trunk might be doable, but I can always bag one and put it in the front passenger seat.

Front plates are always an issue. I never ran one in 25 years of living in NorCal, and only got one fixit ticket in that time. My standard line is something like, "I'm so sorry; this is a limited production car with special parts, and the dealer has the front plate bracket on order".

As I understand it, the car comes with a removable port for access to a threaded hole that can be used for a towing eye -- but this is only functional for cars delivered to non-USA markets? I don't get why they do this, as all the HPDE groups want you to have tow loops in place to speed removal in the event of an off. I'd like to figure out a clean front/rear tow eye install for track usage...

I wonder about space-savers and the CCBs? You'd have to be very careful about that one, but maybe it's not as crucial as I think...

If I remember right, our 2002 Z06 was delivered with a bottle of goop, a toy pump, and instructions on how to hitchhike?

Good news, is that in 25,000 miles, we never had a flat. Flats are rare today with steel radials.

maybe one of these as a spare just to get home??? what do you think? I think any real "space saver" will need a huge spacer???

We don't run them either, but got a ticket in Cad WHILE PARKED? A meter maid stuck a ticket on the windshield.

We just paid a fine. Never put a plate on it.

It's the only ticket we have gotten for it out of 4 cars in 14 years without front plates.

Yes, it's a newer Euro requirement. Our Volt has it, but it doesn't come with the hook or instructions.

You folks are aware the car comes with free roadside assistance? One phone call and all all your worries melt away, yes?

I drove cars for years with no spare and no runflats and no problems.

Relax.

I did a search for Camaro Tow Hooks and saw this:

http://www.andysautosport.com/chevro...u00000270.html

So exactly how hard would it really be to take an old expired harness and use it. Looks like a quick release 5pt has 4 tow hooks, right?
