Trailering your Z/28 - In Gear or Neutral + Parking Brake

When you trailer your Z/28 after securing it to the trailer do you place it in gear and which one or are you a believer of leaving it in neutral? Do you set your parking brake and by how much, half way or full up as far as you can pull it? What are your reasons for the method you think is best? Does your hauler (enclosed or open trailer with tie down or wheel block accessories) influence your preference? My apologies if this series of questions has previously been submitted, any feedback is appreciated.

I haul Mine in a enclosed Trailer with the brake on and in first Gear
I want to stop as much pushing and pulling on my straps as I can.
If one would fail in gear and with the brake on will keep the car in place.
Just my thoughts and preference.

Set the parking brake after pulling the straps tight, then put it in gear as a failsafe. That way there is no "strain" or binding on any of the drivetrain components. Definitely don't leave it in neutral because no parking brake is perfect.

Its not a Z, but when I put my car on the trailer I use tire webs rather than tying to the chassis. I also set the parking brake and leave it in first gear. I installed e-trac on my trailer and have the wheel webs that allow me to ratchet them out from under the car.

I always have the car in Neutral. I had a car damage the tranny from being in gear going across country.

Never heard of this happening. You had too much slack in your tie downs I bet.

I have wheel chocks bolted to the trailer deck so that I get the car on the same each time. I tie the car down to the chassis using the slots in the front and rear subframe. Then set the parking brake with the trans in neutral. Tying the car down using the wheels allows the cars suspension to move around too much and that makes the trailer move around more. My setup is like towing a 3800lb block of steel.

the rear control arms have a hole in them that is perfect for a ratcheting tie strap to fit. I used that location and had two tie straps in a "X" configuration and it was very secure. That hole is near the lower shock mount.

Sorry it's not in the actual subframe. Look forward of the rear wheel in the underbody. There is an oval slot forward from the subframe bolts on each side.

For you guys that are strapping your car down by the frame, where are you attaching the tie-down straps and what type of strap end are you using?

I want to tie the car down by the frame to prevent suspension motion and wear on the suspension from bouncing in the trailer that would result from strapping the car down by the tires.

I know earlier posts talk about locations front and rear.
Where in the front exactly? I looked and with the front belly pan installed, I didn't see any access to the frame slots. Interested in where others are attaching straps.
One of the posts above stated use the slot in the lower control arm for the rear location. Isn't this about the same as strapping thru the wheel or over the tire? I don't think it would limit suspension motion. I always tied down my drag cars so that the suspension was compressed to prevent excessive wear on the shocks.

also, putting the factory spring spacers in the front takes 30 seconds and really helps the car from any bounce while trailering. My car was rock solid on my last road trip with the spring spacers in place.
