Tire size on 22" rims?

I am looking to put on 22 inch rims on my Camaro. I see that others have too on the forum but what size tire do I have to get? I certainly don't want to get tires too big so that they rub on the car or something. Also, will the performance of the car change much with lower profile tires?

Below is a shortcut to a thread that Nine Ball did for all of us to ensure you run the closest sizing to the original stock 20's and should have no problems. I ordered 22x9 front and 22x11 rear and am putting on 265/30/22 and 315/25/22.

Yes, it will change. Skid pad grip might increase because there will be less deformation of the sidewall. It will hurt acceleration because of the extra inertia and the thinner sidewall. Similarly, braking performance will be reduced a bit because of the greater inertia. Most importantly, the suspension response will be worsened because of the increased mass. I can't give you exact numbers, but overall it won't perform as well as it will if it had the stock wheel and tire combo, unless you get ultra light weight wheels and tires with an even softer compound

i hve 295 /30 on the rear and 265/ 35 on the front. switching to a 315 /25 hopefully this summer.

Do you guys running 265/35/22 and 315/30/22 have rubbing issues on the lower spring perch (front) or inner fender well (rear) on lowered cars?

Some of our customers report slight rubbing, some report no issues whatsoever.

So 2010_5thgen, you have an H2 too? I have a blue 2008 H2. I love my H2 and Camaro 2SS/RS. They are both very thirsty though.

I had to trim the lower spring perch so the wheels would not rub. have the sv29's front 22x9.5 rear 22x11 with the tire set up that you describe above.

Lowering the car doesn't affect spring perch clearance. The spring perch is always located the same distance to the tire, regardless if the car is lowered. That is because the shorter spring is above the perch, not below it. Take a look at this pic:



In this situation, wheel offset, tire width and brand (some run wider), and tire height are the main culprits on clearance issues.

Tony is right. I had put my 22x9.5 wheels on the front and didnt think about checking clearance of the spring perch. Drove it about 1 day and then my lowering springs came in. when i went to install the front lowering springs i noticed that the tire had a slight grove cut into it on the inner part on the tread. It was caused from the tire rubbing the spring perch just underneath where the spring sits on the perch. Savini told me to tirm the perch. I did and now it doesnt rub but there is not much clearance between the tire and spring.. By the was tire size is 265/35/22

265/35-22 is a tall tire. The 265/30-22 is a better fit for these cars. I have the 265/30 on my lowered car and it has plenty of clearance.

I'm running 265/35/22 front and 285/35/22 rear with no rubbing at all. Only reason I went with that sizing is to match as close as possible the factory load rating, which is 106 by the way. My 22's have a load rating of 106 in the rear and 99 in the front. It is definitely a tall tire, but luckily these are just for show, not for everyday.

Of course this is true, I was speaking more towards rubbing the rear fender with the 'lowered cars' qualifier

Excellent info! 265/35 is what people have always run since I guess it's easier to find matching 265/35 and 315/30's. Do you know of any affordable combinations (Nitto Invo, etc) in those combos Tony?
