Burning plastic smell?

I noticed two days ago a burning smell when I stopped the car at a light. It smells like plastic or wires burning right behind the drivers side front wheel in the engine bay. It doesn't smell anywhere else. It doesn't smell like oil or clutch. I can't get under to check if anything is on the exhaust.don't know what to do

slakjak1215,

My sincere apologies to read of your displeasing smell concerns. Although you're seeking thoughts and opinions, if you feel an official GM diagnosis is necessary, I'd be happy to communicate your sentiments with the Customer Experience Managers (CEM) at the GM dealer of your choice. Please know that you're welcome to message us privately if you'd like to proceed (with the above), or discuss this situation further.

Kindly,

William R.

Open your hood and look at the rear of engine on drivers side with a flashlight and make sure the O2 sensor lead is not contacting the manifold and see if you can detect anything else from that view. If not , I'd wager that you picked up a plastic bag or other plastic trash and it stuck to the exhaust leads under the car near the manifold. I dodge bags on the roads and byways down here daily to prevent such an incident. Hopefully that's all it is.

I noticed this the other day on mine briefly. No smell today. I really thought I just hit a plastic bag or something on my exhaust.

Those are a giant pain if you hit one.

Yep, I ran over a huge one and it melted all over my exhaust. Took a long time for the smell to go away.

So i check by the engine and saw nothing. I took it to the dealer. They took it up and checked under and didn't find anything on the exhaust and they said all the harnesses looked fine so...Nothing found buttt If my car burns down I will be getting a white one next.

I have noticed the same thing 2 or 3 times, I still can't figure out what is causing that smell.

I have not had that smell since the first couple of times I noticed it. I did not get under the car though, so mine may have been a piece of plastic that I ran over.
