Gears?
Whats up guys...I've been searching the web wondering what gears I am able to put into the 2015 v6 with an auto...I'm coming from a 2011 SS. I had the 3.91 gears in that and loved them. Wallet didn't care for them too much as I went through tires quickly. haha
But what kind of options do I have for my auto v6? |

To do anything other than the 3.55 Richmond gears you need an SS differential. And if you had a manual SS, well, 3.91s in that is very different from 3.91s in anything with the V6 because our transmissions are already really aggressive with the gearing. You wouldn't want to go more than the 3.45s out of the manual SS or 3.73s if you reeaaally wanted to. 3.91s in these cars feels fast but is real world slower IIRC.

Also very interested in gear change options for V6 Auto. If I want to keep the same carrier there is only one option?
How much do you feel that fuel economy will suffer? With my current set up, I am getting 28+ HWY on road trips with only 8k miles on the car. I'm expecting that it will easily hit 30 HWY once the car is fully broken in. I'm concerned about fuel economy because my hometown is 400 miles away from where I live and when the whether permits, I drive my Camaro home.

The 2ls with the 2.92 gears is the only v-6 carrier that the 3.55 gear set will fit. That is what Richmond tech support emailed me on 4-4-16. They also said they have no gear set that will fit the LT 3.27 stock carrier. I suggest you email Richmond tech support direct, the email is on there web site. Rear end swap is your best bet if you have a LT. You can contact GM and see if they have any other options for an auto v-6. If you go to higher gear ratio your mileage will go down.

If it's a manual and LT yes. If auto no the driveshaft will be different.

RS is a LT model. So you should have the 3.27 gear like I do. You will have to put in the SS diff and housing and get you driveshaft cut and balanced. Once you have the SS LSD and housing, you can put whatever gears you want in it, it just takes cash and know how or a good rearend mech. The SS diff will not fit in an auto six housing.

But these gears were available way back in the LLT days before the 2.92 rear end was even thought of yet. The only problem I have ever read on here was when it came down to installing in a 2LS 2.92 rear end and they would not work. I've never seen a problem with the 3.27 1/2LT rear install? So if Richmond told you they will fit the 2.92 carrier and not the 3.27 carrier, and then people on the forum had trouble installing them in both the 2.92 and 3.27 carrier, then in all actuality I suppose they fit nothing and Richmond f#@*ed up big time. I have a brand new set of Richmond 3.55 gears here. I bought them way back when I had my v6 cars, but never got around to installing them. Conveniently enough, I also have a 1LT 3.27 diff. I guess the only way I'm going to be able to sell these gears is if I try (and successfully) install them into the diff I have and sell the whole diff and gears set up and ready to go. This is disappointing news. |

Please keep us updated on the response from Richmond. I have a 2LS and am looking at rear end options. Would be nice if I knew there was a direct drop in differential into my existing carrier without need the need for driveshaft modification/change.

Well the guy at Richmond finally called me back. He says they fit the 2.92 carrier and not the 3.27
I hate to say it, but I've been spewing bad info all this time if he actually is right... But it makes no sense... There has been at least one person that tried to have them put in his 2LS and they did not work. Kenny Camaro informs me that there was a person with a 1LT that wanted them put in and they would not work also... Richmond started offering them before the 2.92 rear was even an option because the LS wasn't available yet. It really makes no sense to me how there has been failed installs in both 2LS and 1/2LT rears and there has been some successful installs in the 3.27 rear in the past... I wonder if perhaps some time along the line the carriers were changed more so from just differing between the 2.92 and 3.27? |

This is why I stated to email Richmond and make sure they fit, as I had read the same info regarding the 2.92/3.27 carrier issue. I sent Jason a copy of the email Johnny Brown the service tech who had told me about the fitting issue regarding the 2.92/3.27 carrier and that the 2.92 carrier would accept the 3.55 gear and not the 3.27 carrier and that they had no gear that would fit the 3.27 carrier. Many thanks to Jason for taking time out of his busy schedule to help resolve the confusion concerning the3.55 R+P carrier issue. Now, has anybody asked a GM dealer if GM offers any other R+P gear sets that will fit the 'infamous' 3.27 carrier?

Again, email Richmond direct, there address is on there web site. It looks like the 3.55 will fit the 2.92 carrier, wich is the 2ls carrier. Good luck!
