Engine rattling noise only under load...

I have no idea why my car is making a very strange noise, but its been like this for 10,000 miles and the Phil Smith Chevy dealership in southeast Florida says there is nothing wrong... this is what happened

Just about 11,000 miles ago my car was too low on oil, due to some valve leaking, and it made some odd noises at a red light, then the car started to shake violently. I turned it off right away, and about 30 minutes later, I turned it back on and drove a mile back home, the very next day I took it to get an oil change.

Ever since that oil change, the car has been making a very noticeable rattling noise only when my foot is on the gas slightly, and only while moving. If I floor the car, you don't really hear it, until I release the gas and then you hear it winding down consistent with the RPM's. All my friends ask me, WTF is that. You can hear it inside the car, outside, its quite embarrassing to say the least, it will rattle in all gears, especially when I am just cruising at a single speed when my foot is just slightly on the gas, that's when it is most noticeable.

I have no idea what to do and I want to know if anyone else has the same problem.

This might sound stupid but could it be spark knock? Try a higher octane gasoline.

If you suspect engine damage due to low oil, get the compression checked.

That would reveal piston ring damage. But if the crank journals are damaged, nothing short of removing the oil pan will reveal this.

I have been putting premium in it since day 1... I am due for an oil change, ill see what they say again but I am getting tired of them acting like there is nothing wrong when clearly there is something going on

If possible, grab a video while driving. Use your phone mount and just place it to the passenger side of the car so we dont hear breathing and shifting.

I had this problem, I was freaking out going to worst possible scenario. Then after 2 months of ripping open top of my engine, checking for pcv leaks etc., then it ended up being the most simple thing. Leaking manifold(headers in my case) I blew the gasket apart, cheap asstermarket BBK gaskets. It was making a metallic tapping sound around certain rpms and most distinguished when accelerating from a stand still.

AGiaquinto1989,

My apologies for the rattling engine noise that you're experiencing. Another route -- if you have not considered this -- would be visiting and getting another opinion at a second certified GM dealership. Should you decide to do this, what I can do is contact both Customer Experience Managers (CEM) at that dealer to help investigate your concern and assist you with finding a positive resolution. Once contacted, the CEMs would serve as your main point of contact throughout the process. You're more than welcome to message me privately for further assistance.

I just started having a similar noise. My car has just over 900 miles on it and when I am accelerating slightly in all gears (though its a bit more noticeable in 1st through 4th) I hear a slight ratle coming from near my feet (possibly bellhousing). It almost sounds like the fork rattling. It just started doing it. I wonder if it's the same thing you are experiencing. I have to bring mine down to GM when I can this week.

well if it is, I can point you in the right direction. I had posted in another guys thread regarding his rattling noise. I took it to the dealer, drove the tech around and he heard it. Left the car with them and after watching the footage from my dash came later, the tech drove around another tech, a service manager, and then another guy even higher lol. In the end they replaced the entire clutch system. They even showed me what was faulty later, it was the release bearing. While watching the video I heard them mention calling tacc support or something like that and those guys told them to do the clutch.

try this.. drive and while under load, push the clutch in and listen for noises or if they disappear, also try pressing it while idle and see if you can hear anything.. these are the kinds of things they were doing while driving my car.

Thanksfor the response. I was doing that yesterday and hearing some weird noises from the clutch area ewhenengaging or ddisengaging the clutch. Sucks having a new car with 950 miles and it has issues.

ohh tell me about it bro.. Ive had the noise for a long time and the first time I brought it up they just documented it. Then there was a period where I was driving around with the fused pulled and I couldn't hear jack haha, but after I installed the mild 2 wild I noticed it more. The breaking point was when friends who sat in the car started pointing it out so I went back and here we are today... are you going to be taking yours to the dealer?

Ive got the same kind of noise... loudest in 6th gear at highway speed with my foot just barely on the gas and when you accelerate a little from there. took a tech for a ride in mine and he said it just sounded like my custom exhaust was making the noise.

they tried to blame it on my exhaust too. I said well... its the factory npp I aint done anything except hi flow cats. I had the problems before the cats and they made note of it... and I had the shop who installed the cats check the exhaust out too for that rattle. just play with the clutch pedal and its easier to prove that way like mrbowtie26 mentioned above
