Those of you with Technostalgias...

Ok I installed the lights a few weeks ago and I love them. There's only one thing I'm unsure of how to use...

When pressing unlock or unlock (not sure about the trunk button or not) it usually just flashes all the inner LEDs twice. Once in a while though, it will flash all the LEDs the way it does turn signals... from inner to outer. I like the second option better, but so far it seems random when it does it!

So most of the time... it is just like all the LEDs flash a few times. On occasion, maybe once out of twenty times... it will turn the LEDs closer to the bowtie on first and move out.

Any idea of how to make sure the second happens? Or why it is random? I've tried it with the lights off and doors unlocked then pressing lock... or all locked and pressing lock again... or arming the alarm (pushing lock twice) pushing unlock once or twice for passenger door... tried it with door open or trunk open... night or daytime... just can't figure it out.

Help? I doubt there's a way to control which one will happen but I want to know why they're different

Do you have the new updated kit? I would love to see some pics of it if someone has it, I'm considering getting on the list for one.

Anyway, as to your question, I can only guess at what is happening based on way the stock taillights work. If you are parked in a shaded area or at night, the tail lights and parking lights will come on and stay on when you unlock the door, which is probably what is happening when the technostalgia lights flash all the way. If its outdoors and sunny, the taillights flash, which is likely the same as the inner LEDs flashing.

Maybe technostalgia has a setting to make it flash regardless of the light sensor, but I'm guessing that they just react to the way the stock system works. A quick and dirty fix would be to just cover the light sensor with something when you leave the car.

Edit: I should have read your post more carefully. It appears you have tried it at night and get the same results. That is strange.

My technostalgias are the old model, which I believe are the same as the new except for the wiring being a little different.

I have the new design tail lights and mine flash the rapid fire once when locking and three times when unlocking, it looks pretty sweet.

Anyone having an issue with all of the lights working intermittently? Sometimes only the first three columns on the inside edge of the right outer light will work and sometimes all of them work normally.

Nope mine all work good although one specific LED is a bit dimmer from a certain angle.

Forgot to mention, that is exactly what the old ones do as well. I just can't figure out why once in a while it does the turn signal style instead...

which on a regular tail light will still look the same regardless of what signal it gets because the brake lights and hazards look identical. On ours they are not and for some reason it is getting a signal to do something different on occasion...

Where can I order the "new design" Technostalgia tail lights from? Everywhere I look they say they are back ordered.

mine do the rapid fire when arming/disarming, as I believe is the proper way they are supposed to work, but every so often do the signal "sweep" behavior as your do, seems random and I usually notice it more on extremely hot days..

I love the sweep turn signal, but I am tired of the lights, I have had all 4 repaired twice by Technostlagia over the past 2 years for the outer "after burner" strips failing, and the last time they repaired them they got micro cracks in the lenses from them opening them up I guess, and they look like ass.

When I brought it up them via email, I received no response, the vendor I bought them from (from whom I also bought an "extended warranty") BadMab is now banned here and doesn't respond to emails or FB messages, so I am ass out of further repairs it appears..

the lights are great when they work, the company sucks in-so-far as service and repair..

I have had no issues so far, even with the showmode hooked up to a cheap switch...

One thing I did notice, though, is that if I turn show mode on with the switch, then turn the lights on by unlocking the car, show mode turns off. it will turn on again if I flip the switch off and on.... ?

I have stock taillights that have been tinted I'm willing to swap for those if you want?

so nobody has ever figured out what causes the two different unlock light flashes?

on another note, it rained for a few hours and one light got fogged up disconnected it and took off the socket to let it dry once it stopped, but obviously it will have to be repaired. they said everything would be covered for free, so I'm not complaining. I heard bad stuff about their warranty but the guy seems great and everyone I've talked to said it was handled quickly and without charge

I've had my Technostalgia's since about April, and the two furthest lights fogged up in about a month. Sent them for repair, and they were completely covered under warranty and Technostalgia was extremely helpful and shipped them back within a day. They actually gave me 2 of the new model tail lights, so I was under the impression that they've fixed the condensation issue. After about 2 months with the new lights in, they began to fog up this past weekend. If it continues to happen, I've just got to return them. I can't keep removing and installing them on a monthly basis. Such a shame, the lights are gorgeous.
