Battery saver
Whilst on my cross country journey the battery saver fairy paid me a few visits. The battery showed a constant 14 plus volts during all times of driving with the following turned on; heater full on, phone plugged in w/GPS in use, and radio on at 30 volume. Car would not even dip below 14. As soon as the lights were turned on, an immediate discharge down to 12 volts triggering the battery saver mode. So I turned everything off except the lights. No change.
I even tried letting the car idle during a pit stop. The volts came back up to 14 and held steady. I drove off with nothing plugged in and everything else turned off. You guessed it, as soon as the lights are turned on there is an immediate discharge to 12 volts. It never went under 12, none the less I was still watchful as I didn't want to be stranded with a dead battery. Thoughts? |

I had this happen on a cross-country drive, between Austin, TX and NorCal. Naturally this occurred in the middle of New Mexico. Luckily I was near a town and popped into a dealer to get it checked. No issues, no fault codes. I think it's simply a function of the small battery, and something Chevy is doing with the computer and logic systems in the car. It's only happened briefly on one other occasion since then, and I have nearly 4K miles on the car. Still, it's a terrible "feature" when you're driving cross-country and you get that warning screen...

Tell me about it. First time it came on I was on route 44 I believe, middle of no where TX. If it persists I'll look into a better battery.
