2014 2SS to 2013/2014 ZL1 - a little advice please?
This is so dumb I know...I just got my new 2014 2SS nine months ago and I like it and everything, but...
...I got bored, so I started looking on Autotrader.com at ZL1's. Here's what I'm seeing: NEW leftover 2014 ZL1's in the $55-57K range Used 2014 ZL1's (they all have very low miles) in the $51-53K range Used 2013 ZL1's (1,000-5,000 miles) $45-48K range If I do this, I want to be sure I get one with just the right equipment - namely M6, RECARO SEATS, NAVIGATION, SUEDE PACKAGE and SUNROOF. I'm fine with either the polished 5 spoke silver or black 10 spoke wheels (although it's funny how the polished 5 spokes cost more, but seem to be less popular). What, if any, significant changes were there from 2013 > 2014? I own a 2014 SS, so I know about the new rear end, but were the Recaros available in 2013? And did they change the DIC, Navigation or audio systems? Since I'm not in a hurry to do anything, I'm anticipating some dealers will be discounting very low mileage pre-owned/demo 2014 ZL1's to $50K - then I'd be in striking distance. If a few of you could weigh in on this, I'd appreciate it.

Sounds like you figured out our secret
and you've already made up your mind. I bought mine from a great guy here on Camaro5. Sell your car outright and keep hitting the For Sale section here. This is where the BEST deals are made. Good luck in your search for a ZL1.

I'm totally still wrestling with the decision, I hate throwing money away - I'd be spending a lot to jump ships, maybe $18,000. Crap that sounds like a lot.

Get the SLP supercharger package and get it installed at a authorized dealer. You will get the same power as a ZL1 for less money and your car warranty will not be effected. I know this is a fact because my friend did it on his SS and he has all the papers an warranties. It will be a lot cheaper to do it this way.

Fair point, though. If he's just going to the drag strip, that's a sensible solution. If he wants to be fast around corners, it's going to take a lot more than adding a blower. |

Im going to hold on to my 13 2SS/RS for a few years, and then hopefully find a low mileage ZL1 for $30k-$32k. Time is your friend with performance cars.

Recaros were new for '14, along with color HUD; MyLink carried over from '13. I always shun trading from a new car to used, but if its your objective to have a zl1 then make sure that at least its a low mileage example with an extended warranty. Price some new '14s as well, you may luck out and strike out a fantastic deal. Dealers want to clear up inventory space, so take your time and bargain hard.

lbls 1 is correct on the recaros and Hud. Sounds like you are looking for '14+ if you want the recaros. The ZL1 drivetrain is exaclty the same from 2012-2015. The rear in the ZL1 is totally different than the SS (much stronger and has a heat exchange cooler inside the diff), all of the drivetrain components and many suspension components are different in the ZL1. The manual trans is completely different and has different gear ratios, axles, driveshafts, all different....upgraded. Magride, brakes, block, heads, pistons...etc. If you want a stout Camaro, the ZL1 is worth the price because it will cost you more than $18K to swap in all of the ZL1 upgrades.

14 options
color hud color dic recaro option new rear facia blue ray metalic color adding recaro's to a 13 $4500 -$1500 you get for you seats is 3k out of pocket. So at this point you just have to ask yourself what your budget is. if you can't get 14 for about 55k buy a used 13 IMO for 45k or so add the seats be in the car for 48k. resale value will be better. this car has average resale it is not a car IMO you don't want to buy new unless you have to. I had ordered a 12 and got bumped to a 13 I got supplier price paid 55k out the door at the time have proabably lost 8-10k. now that you can buy lower miles used I would rather spend the 45-48k and not lose as much money on the car. I think these cars will stay int he 38k-42k range for a wile so it will minimze the loss.

Oh, I forgot mid 2014 they changed the supercharger isolator so that may be something to look for if you don't plan to mod the car.
