Strange Engine Noise
Today I noticed that while accelerating on the highway, my car makes odd noises. It always starts with a ticking noise, that gets louder the further I depress the pedal.
So when I got home I popped the hood and found this. What exactly is this noise? In the beginning of the video for the first 5 seconds or so, you can hear the ticking. Later in the video, I set my phone down to rev the engine and you can hear an odd puff of noise before it revs. Appreciate if anyone has advice. Thanks! http://youtu.be/tRetX5HgIoE Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Okay so I will stick my neck out here but I preface everything with the fact that Your video does not clearly dilineate the type of ticking, and yes I do hear the puff.
we all know that fuel injectors can in fact tick and if one is sticking open, could explain the puff at the initial onset of pressing the pedal. HOWEVER, I think the problem may be much more serious. it sounds like a lifter and possibly a valve not opening and closing correctly causing the puffing. sometimes puffing is just a timing issue but with the sound, I would bet on something mechanical like a lifter. The Heads are probably coming off. A top notch mechanic can get that done in 1&1/2 days . |

Would that affect performance in any way or produce any other noises? Because other strange things have been happening lately, and my car feels quite sluggish sometimes, and under acceleration, makes kind of a fluttering metallic noise. It's hard to pinpoint it, but it almost sounds like a wind noise, but coming from the engine. I feel like I'm having tons of problems, and it's no fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Also I agree the ticking is difficult to hear in the video. It's sounds like a fan or something. When my car runs and has its little moments where the idle gets louder than usual, it starts then. And then when the idle settles down, it stops, and sounds like it's forcing air out? I'm terrible at Explaining things, I'm sorry.

Sure it's definitely going to effect performance in a big way, if it's mechanical as I suspect, you need to get it repaired before it causes other problems internally.

I don't hear anything wrong honestly. Maybe it's just the video but it sounds like any other car judging solely from the the video...
If you are talking about the noise right as you accelerate the RPMs, almost every car does that noise, it is just the air intake. If you're talking about something else I hear nothing |

I know for a fact my car never did that before. It's just worrisome because I have commented in the past how I feel a loss of power, along with several other issues. Just trying to figure out my problems, before they get worse. But I don't really know how to describe it to the dealership and tell them "well fix it." And leave lol. The ticking noise is like a fluttering metallic noise when accelerating I guess. And when it idles rough, you hear it very loud. Then it goes away when the rough idle stops....
