Tire size on 1LE

I know the 1LE comes with the wheels from a ZL1 but I do not understand why they put the smaller size on the back. What would happen if you put the 305 tire on the back of a 1LE.

The ZL1 has the 305 because of the extra Hp. It was needed to help put the power down straight line and off corners. The 1LE doesn't have as hard of a time putting the power down and turns in better due to the "square" setup of the tires (I know the rim width is still staggered).

Adding the 305 on the 1LE will add back some of the understeer the standard SS has with its staggered setup. How noticeable it is will depends on your driving habits and mods to your car. Some people have done it and not noticed a difference. Some of the guys who track their car extensively would probably disagree. And for daily driving you would probably never notice.

The 1LE uses a 285 tire on the rear to help eliminate understeer. Putting a 305 tire on the rear will change the handling slightly.
