Z/28 Wheel Damage Advice

Hello,

Looking for some advice from this knowledgeable board. I went to the best local shop for tires and asked if they had the capability to safely remove and install new tires on the Z/28 wheels if I ordered Michellen PSS tires from them. They assured me on three occasions they could, and at the time I dropped the car off. I even gave their best tech $20 before he started to be careful. Three hours later they had dinged one rim on the outside and severely scratched inside of all the rims (it is noticeable and you can see it) where they removed the existing balancing tape weights. On Monday they are calling to discuss options, what would you demand or ask for? The catch is I am running out of time and need to get the car in storage for the winter. Thanks.

Let their insurance buy you some new rims. Or your insurance and let them collect from their insurance company.

Do you have pictures? Are the wheels still true, as in not bent? If so I would just get them refinished and be done with it.

If the shop owner understands the power of social media, they'll be buying you new rims for those they damaged. They can keep the old rims to sell on eBay to recoup some of their money.

New rims or get a quote from a reputable shop and have them pay the bill for the repairs. I've been through this issue twice and each time it was never the same. The last issue I had I gave up, all 4 wheels damaged badly, after repair, paint was not the same color and more damage done to the inside. Goodyear refused to work with me aside from letting them repair it again. Here is a picture of the inside AFTER they repaired for the original issue.

New wheels from the dealer. I wouldn't accept anything less. And get your $20 back from the tech.

Slight scratches from removing the balancing tape is common. Use a black marksalot if they are not too bad. The true ding, well that's a bigger problem.

Here is a sample of their handiwork on one wheel. I would classify these as hacking rather than slight scratches though and they can be seen.

Ahh hell no. That's straight screw driver hacking without giving a rats ass. Then to not clean off the old tape, poor workmanship. You gave this guy 20 bucks and he basically said screw you.

They need to be replacing any affected wheel at their cost. No excuse for what they did.
I'm having new tires put on next week... at the dealer for $60. If they mess em up, they'll be replacing them. Then you also have the weight of GM you can lean on.

Thanks for the feedback. I am also of the opinion that they need to replace all four wheels as they all have similar damage. When they disclosed the damage, they first offered to waive installation fees, then said they would try to find a re- finisher. I told them I was going across the street to have my dealership look at them and when I got there the body shop manager could not believe it either. Should make for an interesting Monday.
