Has The Ordering Frenzy Passed??

Just for giggles, I went on www.chevrolet.com/camaro and checked local availability on Camaros. I punched in my zip code to check local inventory. I found 65 Camaros on dealer lots ready for delivery!

LS=0
1LT=7
2LT=7
1SS=2
2SS=49

I live about 30 miles west of Boston. I'm sure there must be some gougers mixed in, but was really surprised that there are 65 Camaros on lots ready for delivery within 35 miles of my house that are'nt spoken for.

That's not entirely accurate. Some of those cars were ordered for customers but for many reasons, they have not been reported as sold yet. Also, many dealers are still in dream land asking stupid money for the car which is why they are still available.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought it odd that 65 were available within a 35 mile radius. I wasn't aware those numbers would include "customer orders" that haven't been delivered yet.

On some news site GM indicated they had a 2 week supply on hand.

That pretty much means zero availability after all the orders are taken into account.

Before I ordered mine I called several dealers that showed availability on the web site. I was told they show up as "available" as soon as they are put into production and well before they are delivered, and regardless of whether or not they were ordered for a customer.

The GM locator also does not update near as quick as the dealers inventory does. I found this out when trying to find a G8 for the wife. G8's where listed all over the place but when I started calling and driving to dealers majority of them where already sold.

Is the intitial ordering/MSRP markup frenzy over?

I am a little out of the loop since I ordered back in July but from what it appears this frenzy phase may be ending very soon if not already? Anyone have recent experience searching around dealerships and status on allocations? I am assuming dealerships generally don't have any sitting in their lots for MSRP still?

I think the ordering is slowing down from what it was and you can find more dealers with allocations now, but there are still plenty of orders going in. I just ordered mine last week and have seen at least anoter 10-12 members here say they have ordered in the last week and several that are ordering soon. There are some dealers that still have wait lists of a few months as well.

If eBay is any sign (as it is usually the biggest market for overpriced cars in demand) the demand is definately dying down as are the prices.

In the past 7 days the number of listings has doubled and there are now a good amount of cars being sold at MSRP (a week ago you could not find any) and even a few less than MSRP.

I think it would be safe to say that the low life opportunistic chevy dealers that were pushing hard for short term profits have enrichened themselves about as much as they can on this one. Now they will be waiting for the convertible to start this feeding frenzy and then the Z-28 if it truely does get released.

You can bet that Chevy is going to do something special (maybe a ZL1 - hint, hint chevy guys) running the LS9 or something along those lines. You can expect the same dealers that have now alienated thier customer base in return for short term profits to also employ the same tactics again.

Care to link any? I must be looking in the wrong places because every brand new SS with mileage under 50 is marked up into the high thirties, low forties.

My local dealer must have some open allocations since they have five of them (only one of them being a V6) right outside that I see every day on my way to and from work. It's either that or they're STILL marking them up and all those cars are canceled customer orders.

BTW, your COPO is breathtaking. Plus, you're from SI - my mother grew up in your neck of the woods. Awesome stuff and welcome to the forum. :P
