Panic with my first oil change

So, here I am stuck in jury duty, just over 1600 miles thinking - when the heck am I going to be able to get to a dealership for my first oil change. Find there's a chevy dealership on my way home, and get out early one day, and bring by my new baby.

There she is, sitting all vulnerable in this drive thru area, I'm cringing watching people weave in front and behind her. I get this GREAT BIG guy, dirty guy writing up my ticket, and I about panic when I see him HEAVE himself into the driver's seat. Don't know how he got in with my seat settings, but he moved the seat back a LOT, then proceeded to start her up. Lurch forward, stop, lurch, stop, almost killed it three times, then lurched to a new location. My heart stopped.

I didn't say anything. I prayed. She lived through her first oil change without any damage. The car is a lot tougher than I am...

dang man. I don't have a zl1, but I love my SS. Pretty sure I would have just got up and offered to drive it into the bay for them.

I hear what you're saying, but I've been thru so many oil changes (once upon a time I used to do my own oil changes) that I don't give it a second thought. I do like to have a visual of my car and the work area where its being serviced. I'm thinking of changing the oil sooner than 1500 (I'm at 960 miles currently) miles, but it will depend on whether I take it to the dealer or if I do it myself.

I would have asked for the keys back and left. At a minimum he should not have been dirty, and able to drive the car. And alway ask fot the ZL1 certified mechanics, even for oil changes.

This is why I always buddy up to my service manager and he takes care of me.

This is why I started doing my own oil change. 1st one was free and I was lucky enough to ask for a specific tech to work on my car. After that and reading a lot of posts about changing the oil. I bought race ramps. AC delco filter at Walmart. Mobil 1 at Costco. I already had a creeper and tools to remove old filter and belly pan. Doing the oil change was easy. Hardest part was driving up the ramps. Do it yourself and save the headache of going to dealership. Plus if you have the alcantra steering wheel and shifter you won't have to worry about oily hands or BO in the seats from the tech.

I DEFINITELY do my own oil changes. It is too easy in this car to not do it.

Learn your car and learn to take some time to do the simple maintenance things. It doesn't take much equipment, nor expertise. <I dare anyone to say they are busier than I am, and I find time to change my own oil.>

The benefits are two fold: You get to learn your car and you get to spend some relaxing time in the garage. Call me crazy, but one of the most peaceful places on earth is on my back under my ZL1.

Stories like this make me think my dealership is run by angels...

Seriously though, my dealership has ONE guy that works on ZR1's and ZL1's. That is literally all he does all day. I met him, he's a cool dude. Skinny, wears gloves, and has NEVER been dirty that I have seen. I get my car back from him with the plastic floor mats and plastic over the seats as well. Never had any problems with him...

With that being said, I do my own oil changes

Yep. Do it yourself so you know it's done right. Tip... K&N filters are the best.

I must say that my dealer parked my car in the owners spot so nothing would happen to it. They are very careful with these type so cars assuming we are all OCD

For my first change, the idiot oil monkey took off for a joy ride for a couple minutes first !!
When he returned I assisted him out of the car with my left hand around his throat and right hand clenched in a fist. I can't remember ever being so mad. He pleaded his case saying it was all part of the service. I let him go (a great move on my part or I would be typing this from my cell) and he backed off saying sorry, sorry sorry. The service manager ran over and quickly yelled at him to go into his office. He (the manager) got another guy to do the change and insisited I move the car in and out of the bay. Before I left the dealership, the idiot was sent home....with a pink slip.
Several of the other workers came over to me saying that it was about time, they couldn't stand the guy and this wasn't the first time.
From now on, I am the only one allowed to drive it on thier property and they bend over backwards for me with all my cars.
I'm just glad I was there to see it, who knows what goes on when you're out of sight ??
