applying vinyl hash marks

So I tried to apply the vinyl hash marks myself.

This is the result:



They are crooked. I did the dry application.

Before I go ahead and ruin another set. Any tips to make the install better?

Spray a lot of water on the fender and the hash marks themselves, sticky side as well as the outside (side that faces out). You can take off and move around as many times as you need to. I had to take mine off, spray more water on them and the car, and retry to line them up many times. Once you have them where they are perfect, then squeegee them. Get rid of all the bubbles by going from the center out to the edges. Re-apply more water to the outside of the hash marks to make the squeegee glide and not scratch the vinyl. Go slow, take your time, the water buys you lots of time, and Good Luck!

Add a few drops of dish soap to your spray bottle as well. I just did my mail slot blackout and good spears using this method, was able to move them around until I liked where they were then gently squeegee out the water, I wrapped the squeegee with papertowel to protect the vinyl an it soaked up the extra soapy water. Then apply heat once your satisfied and again apply a little more force and work out any bubbles or imperfections.

Take the new set to a local body shop...vinyl is so common these days that any body shop will have experience applying them. $50 and your done.

I asked a body shop to install vinyl stripes and he had no idea what I was talking about..."whatcha mean vinyl?"....nice. Needless to say, he didn't do it.

I got quoted $175 from one guy who does it out of his garage, and $300 for a vinyl business for mine.

Ended up doing it myself. Took 8 hours for hood, trunk and spoiler. In hindsight would've gladly paid $175.

But to answer your question, don't do them dry. Soapy water is the way to go.

+1 to the soapy water method, also if you wind up with a bubble late in the process, e.g. after things have started drying, pin-prick or razor blade it to open it up and squeegee it down...in case that needed saying

noooooo. Don't poke holes in it. Lift it up and squeegie it down again

If it's already sticking pulling it up could be more catastrophic than a few pin pricks

If it's sticking before you squeegie, then you aren't using enough water

Buy a sheet of vinyl and make you own with this stuff it is alot easier.

Late in the process implies post squeegee.
