Moving to Chicago

Hey everyone, Union Pacific is transferring me to the Chicago area and I wanted to see who else lived in the area and what if any are the best tracks to run. Thanks for the responses.

In this area you have Autobahn Country Club (private in Joliet, IL) that you can run with organizations like HOD, MVP, and others. Those clubs rent the track. I've run BlackHawk Farms in South Beloit. And then there's always Road America up north. There are also other tracks like Gingerman in Michigan if you're up for a drive.

Welcome to Chi-town. Great Lakes Dragaway just over the Wisconsin border in Union Grove is a great place to race and they have many car show events in the warmer months. Tons of local cruise nights and show and shine events in almost every Burb.

Once you have been there for a year or so, and then you go back home, make sure that you talk with a Chicago accent see? Like a 1920's gangster see? Yeah, see?

Then when your friends are all like "dude, why are you talking weird?"
Answer "Whadyamean, see? I always talked like this, see? You're the ones who talk weird see?

Road tracks:
Blackhawk Farms in S.Beloit/Rockton, IL right on the IL/WI border about 90 minutes from down town Chicago

Autobahn Country Club - Joliet - maybe an hour drive if that from downtown

Gingerman - South Haven Michigan - about a 2 hour drive

Road America - Plymouth WI (by Milwaukee) - 2.5 hour drive

Dragstrips
Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI - about an hour or so

Byron Dragway in Byron IL - 1-1.5 hours away

Route 66 in Joliet - about an hour away

US 41 dragway in Indiana - im not sure if this is still open or not. I have not been there in years

As you can see - there are plenty of locations fairly close. Also Indianapolis is only about a 3-3.5 hour drive away.

Please enjoy your upcoming complete and utter freedom from ever having to worry about the 2nd amendment, as the fine city of Chicago has already taken that right away from you. Good thing they have such a low crime rate.

Can any of you Chicago guys tell me if there is still a drag strip in Oswego, IL? We went there to test one day, and were blown away by the gravel return road! To top it off, I was passed on the return road by a tubed Monza. Lost a 396 at Great Lakes as well. That place was run by a guy named Broadway Bob back in the day. Crazy!

I think Oswego is closed. Great Lakes Dragaway still looks the same. Even the food at the concessions is original. LOL.

Broadway Bob owned it pretty much up until his death. He sold it and died a year or so later (kind of a blur now)

They finally put concrete walls up at GLD and seem to switch between IHRA/NHRA every other year. I think they are back to IHRA but i dont know. I havent been up there in over a year.

Real Street Drags (put on by that Tuff guy from street outlaws) are a lot of fun - clocks off street racing on the track.

Oswego is long gone.

Also concealed carry is legal in Illinois. Its just Chicago that keeps fighting it. I dont live in the city - not a big deal to me
