How Flush is Too Flush?

All,

I'm looking at a set of wheels that are 20x9" ET35 or ET20 in the front and 20x10" ET35 or ET20 in the back.

It is my understnading that ET20 will come out more flush with the side of the car while ET35 will be further in.

Does anyone have any advice as to what is better? Will ET20 rub? Any pictures of each?

Car is stock height, and I have no plans to change that.

Thank you guys!

Why are you changing your wheels?

Huh? I'm buying a new set of wheels and I am asking which offset I should get.

To give further detail, I plan to run a 275/40 up front, and a 305/35 out back. Going to be MT Street Comp tires.

In front, the outside edge would move closer to the fender at +35 = 13 mm (~.5") and +20 = 28 mm (~1.1")

In back, +35 = 18 mm (~.7") and +20 = 33 mm (~1.3")

I'd be willing to bet that the +20 offset will stick out past the edge of the fender. Always a chance of rubbing on a hard bump with that.

Thank you for the detailed reply.

So if I would go ET35, I would be better off all around?

I would go with +35 personally given those options.

Thank you. I was leaning that way myself, but wanted a gutcheck.

Hold on now... the offset always depends on the type of wheel. I've got +20 Offset for the rears and +35 Offset for the fronts on the Niche Milans, and it all sits perfectly flush, at least to my liking. I did have to add some small adapters to my fronts in order to get them there... but all is well in that department.

Here's a shot of the front (sorry bad pic), and a shot from the rear (note that on the rear shot, I had not yet added the adapters to the fronts).

Ok, the wheels I am looking at are the VMR V710s.

Cause I'll be honest, I know nothing about wheel offsets. So advice is appreciated.

I have 20x10 square set up with +35 front and +23 rear 275/40 on all corners slammed. No rubs in the rear. Slight rub in the front driver side only

Tire Rack has a good intro page on OFFSET. Check it out if you haven't yet;

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/...jsp?techid=101

To add: I think the +20 OFFSET would definitely have your rears stick out on the type of wheels you want. You should be good with +35 for the rears and if you can go +30 or +25 for the fronts, I think they will sit more flush with your front end... guys, chime in here if I'm wrong.

Ah! That explained it quite well. I was wondering why +35 was less flush than +20.

So, now its appearing that its based on wheel?

I don't need ideally flush, I want to avoid any type of rubbing while having a good look. I am fine with the flushness of the factory wheels. What is the offset of those?

Factory offsets for the SS wheels are 20x8 +35 front and 20x9 +40 rear.

And based on that, that should mean that my aftermarket front would come out to the same point as the factory wheel, while the aftermarket rear will come out 5mm further than the stock?
