Let's talk: Cat-Back exhaust systems for the ZL1

I've been looking at different systems online and have found a few that caught my eye. The Borla ATAK system and the Stainless Works Retro Chambered system. I do eventually want to get headers and either high flow cats or just remove them completely. Let me know what you guys have and the pros and cons of your exhaust system. (sound & tone, loudness, performance, etc) Also, any other info you can provide me for the 2 systems I mentioned would be great, too.

Thanks!

I did the SW 1 7/8 headers with cats and the retro chambered exhaust. If you want loud and raucous then its the system for you! I love it, was exactly what i was looking for. If youre looking for something slightly more audible than factory with good performance but not balls to the wall like the SW then i would go for the Borla ATAK. Met a guy with it on his ZL1 and it was great sounding. I just like to piss off my neighbors, so the SW was for me.lol

ZL1 exhaust

I have the same set up.Full SW system no cats and I love the sound.Nice deep tone the way a ZL1 should sound but not to loud cruising around until you get in the gas and no drone on the highway.I am very happy with the SW set up on my car very well made products and you drop like 30 pounds with the SW cat back and another 30 pounds with long tubes and 10 more no cats can't go wrong adding performance and dropping weight off the heavy ZL1's
Also I had the cat back installed first and I hollowed out the rear factory cats to help flow and they are over kill from factory sounded louder than factory but once you do long tubes that's when the exhaust really comes alive good luck

What's the difference between the ATAK and Retro systems, other than loudness? Also, how do the dual tips fit on the aftermarket systems? I hate when one side is different from the other or the tips don't fit right on the rear facia.

We sell A TON of American Racing Header systems, and i gotta say.. The quality and sound that you get out of these, is pretty phenomenal. We carry just about every exhaust manufacturer out there that makes a system for the Camaro, so if you had any questions, i would be happy to help you.

Honestly, you may want to see how you like the sound of the OEM exhaust once you add headers alone. I think it sounds pretty damn good myself. If that doesn't cut it, I'd go for the Stainless Works Retro.

Feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions.

Best regards,

I've heard it sounds great with just headers, but if I get headers, I would like a tune. Right now I'm looking for bolt ons that don't "require" a tune, until I get to a point where I need a tune. Just trying to save some money on tuning, instead of doing one every time I add a part.

Try pulling the fuse on your stock system first. It's free.

I hear ya, but one thing to think about is when you finally do decide to do the headers, it's going to get 25-30% louder.

Many people will spend all kinds of money getting their exhaust just how they like it, then add headers and suddenly it's too loud. The money saved on not buying an exhaust system, would more than pay for a tune. Just food for thought.

Tyler

Yeah, good point. Honestly, the louder the better, but that's just me. I also play in a heavy metal band so that's home to me haha. Looking from a performance standpoint, is there much difference between the stock NPP system and an aftermarket system?
