It would be nice...

...if GM would paint the insides of all their coolant pipes with paint that can actually hold up to THEIR coolant. This is from my 13 2LT with 37k miles. Every coolant pipe is this way. So all that paint is getting dispersed in the cooling system. Ok rant over.

Wow, I would have never have thought to look look at it. Imagine how much is going off and getting in the heater core.

You're also twin turbo'd, I assume this makes a difference, and if you're running dex-cool that's way better than I've seen in older GM vehicles

Mine looked the same way when I pulled the coolant line off removing the transmission. Wonder if some kind of flush would clear out the pipes.

It definitely couldn't hurt, I might back flush the heater core while I have everything apart. Then when I get it back together do I flush.

well its all bubbling up and that cannot be good long term just to avoid corrosion and not eventually come off. I would take the pipes to a good radiator rebuilder and show them and strip and recoat with better or replace stripped, or go aftermarket. A good hot tanking usually can remove just about anything on auto parts. Yours of course would be hot tank and blow clean and maybe media blast..etc what ever could be done.... You see you do not have to just worry about the radiator: you have a thermostat that can clog, heads that have cooling and other water passages, and even the sensor that could be fouled eventually. I know talking to the dealer may not be a option, yet hey.. Thanks for showing us. And just for everyone to know radiator fluid does need to be changed every so often as its PH changes and becomes more acidic long before it goes bad, as in to keep it the right PH its about dump it every two years. This also helps prevent pitting caused to aluminum and other metal, and aluminum being soft compared to other metals I have seen a lot of pitting from aluminum heads and intakes onto cast iron blocks back doing old chevys.

So would using distilled water and the proper coolant for aluminum help this?
