First service

I'm done the break in period (finally) and was wondering what the recommended service is from people on here.
Is just oil and filter enough? should I do break fluid, tranny and diff as well?

TIA

Oil/filter and rear end fluid. Tranny supposedly is "fluid for life" but you know how that goes. The rear only holds one quart and it has very convenient drain & fill plugs.

Thanks Stephen. Any particular fluid and filter brands to recommend?

Depends if you're tracking or not. For the rear diff, you want to use the stock GM fluid and friction modifier either way. Drain from lower plug after making sure you can open upper plug. Pour in whole bottle of friction modifier first, then whole bottle of 75W-90.

GM 75W-90 (88900401)

GM (88900330)

For the oil, stick with mobil 1, either 5W-30 if not tracking or 15W-50 if tracking. Uses about 10 quarts.

ditto...10qts!!! Mobil 1 5w30 for non track use and Mobil 1 15w50 for track use. Definitely GM fluid for rear as stated in the track document. I didn't see where the modifier had to be used according anything I read as long as the correct GM fluid is used.

Not sure you need to change diff fluid after 1500 miles of gentle use. I'd wait until after a couple of track days. Owners manual recommends changing diff fluid every 24 hrs of track time.

From manual:

"Because the fluid temperatures may
be higher, it is necessary to change
the rear axle fluid every 24 hours of
racing or competitive driving. See
Recommended Fluids and
Lubricants on page 11-12."

Ah ok, I assumed you would need to change the diff fluid due to just having shavings present from the break in. The cost is not prohibitive so I can't see any harm in changing it...

No harm and it isn't an expensive fluid swap as only 1 quart is required. I did it at 1500 miles at it took maybe 10 minutes.

Besides the fact that your statement was pretty random in this thread, why are we "mofos"?

Since the Z/28 does not use a clutch type limited slip I'm pretty sure you do NOT want to put friction modifier in the rear end. Actually I believe with the helical diff that the Z/28 uses even using synthetic rear diff fluid is discouraged because the synthetic fluid is even to "slippery" for the helical diff to work properly. It's one fluid maintenance item on the Z/28 that is actually less expensive than the other camaro models!
