Using VIN to locate a car

Wondering if there is a easy way to find a car you have owned in the past. My wife had a 2002 35th Anniversary Limited Edition SS that I would like to see if it is still around. A friend bought it after we traded it in at the dealership, he had it for about 6 years then traded it for a 5th gen. Interested in maybe locating it to buy it back. Any free way to find it? Thanks

If it's still registered I can locate it for you with the vin number. If it isn't registered but has been in the last 5 years I can tell you who last registered it. I can't promise you results but it doesn't hurt to try. All I need is the vin...
