question about flywheel with a whipple

Want to buy a McLeod RXT clutch.. just wondering since I have a whipple would it benefit more to go with a aluminum or steel flywheel. I have a ZL1 rear on the way so I will be running 3.73s. I have read all the reviews but none of them have a blower so im kinda lost on what way to go. I will do more road race then drag but I do like to do both. I have also read that taking off can be a pain but this is only a weekend car. Advice or experience is appreciated! Thanks! Also where is the cheapest place to buy.. Sponsor hook up?

You should look into a SPEC Stage 3+....it is a single disc clutch, rated for about 900lb-ft, and still maintains stock drivability. They suggest it for street, strip, autocross, rally racing, pulling, and drifting. It does require a flywheel change, so with both items, it was around $850 I think. PhaseTek had the best price on it, IIRC.

I would run the heavier steel flywheel. Makes it a lot easier to drive with the rotational mass.

I can see almost no reason you'd ever want an alloy flywheel.

been thinking really hard about it because I can see the pros and cons. I just can't seem to figure out which way is best to go I was hoping somebody could get on here who is running a lighter flywheel and tell me how they like it. I had one before but it was on in a NA setup on a WS6. I was running a stage 3 monster. I switched out everything when I did that build and couldn't get a really good idea of how the lighter flywheel felt compared to a heavier one. the only thing I noticed was I was getting a really good workout in my left leg lol

these cars are to heavy for a lightweight flywheel, no benefit at all

In my experience I personally would run the alum flywheel, especially with all the power you have no need to run a heavy flywheel its not like the car will bog off the line at the track lol.

In my 437 rwhp 99 camaro I had a 15 pound alum flywheel and went 10'40's at 127 with 1.39 60 foots. It'll drive just fine, street or track.

Even when I ran 9.70's N/A at 141 3450 pounds same flywheel.

Heavier for streetability. Reduces chatter with the extra inertia and also easier to tune cause when you clutch it and it must immediately fall to idle and wants to overcompensate and surge with the lighter. Will have a lil extra crispness on throttle response with lighter but nothing extreme.

I went with the Mcleod RXT.. stock weight on the flywheel. Was going to go lighter but changed my mind. I also have a stage 7 RPM Transmission and ZL1 differential on the way!!

Its too lightweight. Chatters, hard to drive on the street. Heavy flywheel would have been the better choice. The clutch itself is indestructable tho so far. Ive spent 1500 bucks trying to figure out why its so hard to drive but its just the style of clutch and flywheel. Nothing actually wrong...but nobody told me that until now.
