I live in California and sadly the highest octane available is 91 octane. Some gastations sell 100 octane for about $9 a gallon. I've seen at many stores octane boost for fairly cheap you can fix with gas.
So if anyone's had any experience with octane gas or knows if it really works let me know.

No. There's no comparison between 100 octane race gas and 91 octane with (pick your brand) octane booster...even 2 bottles of it. Put a couple gallons of 100 octane in with your 91 octane fillup and you'll be much better off than messing with octane boosters.

Here is a great blending calculator to get the octane desired. It will also break down the cost of the blend.

Depends. Torco and ones like that work great. The cheap autoparts stuff not at all.

+1000 I'm tuned for 104 octane and have been using Torco for over 2years and it works great! The last 2months I've been using Boostane and it's just as good plus a little cheaper. But yes the stuff at auto parts stores is crap!! I wouldn't pay that much for 100octane just to mix it with 91octane and still not have 100+ octane. If you just want to boost it to 93 the loadings of Boostane are minimal. My app says 1/2 a quart in 15gals will give you 93 octane. It's $165 for 6 quarts or $27.50 a quart so half a quart in 15 gallons is a bargain and all you carry is a quart around to the gas station.

Obviously if you pump gallons of something higher octane in instead of ounces it will be more effective... just sayin... Ethanol percentage had been the big concern a couple years ago with the issue of stations not cutting the gas by more than 10% with ethanol mixture. Some stations around here still sell ethanol free unleaded.
